Gregorio Martínez Finca Blanco 2017 is a complex wine with a magnificent evolution in the bottle, made from the recovery of a wise blend of white varieties traditionally used in Rioja: garnacha blanca, malvasía, viura, palomino, maturana, and torrontés. Bodegas Gregorio Martínez manually selected its best fruits from a total of 20 micro-plots, planted between 1904 and 1945, with different orientations, at an altitude of 550 meters, in one of the best areas of the D.O.Ca. 20 months of aging on its lees, 16 of them in oak, turned it into an intense, fresh, very fruity, and long-lasting white Rioja.
On the nose, aromas of white and yellow flowers (petunia, azahar, alelí, jasmine), ripe white fruit (pavía, apricot, melon), citrus (lime peel), and light balsamic (mint) with sweet notes of white chocolate dominate.
On the palate, it is intense, clean, fresh, citrusy, with plenty of white fruit, good acidity, and a very long finish.
At the foothills of the Moncalvillo and Camero mountain ranges, on a privileged balcony overlooking the valleys of the Ebro and Iregua, lies the vineyard of Bodegas Gregorio Martínez, at an average altitude of 700 meters above sea level, in one of the highest areas of Rioja Alta.
The origins of the winery date back to the 1970s, led by Gregorio Martínez, a viticulturist who, over the years, consolidated the estate by bringing together parcels from the nearby areas of Logroño, Nalda, Sorzano, and Entrena. After his untimely death, the second and third generations of the family took over the estate, launching the winery as it is known today in 2001.
Bodegas Gregorio Martínez has a total of 40 hectares of vineyards, predominantly planted with tempranillo, featuring five distinct clones. The altitude of the vines, their northern orientation, and the composition of the soils in which they take root (red clay, sands, and sedimentary rocks) allow for the production of fine, distinguished wines with great aging potential.
