Bodegas Familiares Matarromera, founded by the prestigious winemaker Carlos Moro, combines tradition, innovation, and quality in its wines, which has become the group's philosophy. A significant part of its innovation is based on natural wines, respectful of the environment, like the Granza wine line that we now propose to you.
The Granza label has been chosen by Bodegas Familiares Matarromera to honor traditional crops and refers to the residues (grain, long straw, ear, etc.) left unhulled from wheat and other seeds like barley when they are winnowed and sifted.
With these premises, we suggest the red wine Granza Tinta de Toro Roble 2021, a wine made in the Denomination of Origin Toro with organic grapes from the Valdelapila plot. A vineyard planted in Toro that has been designed to be gradually treated naturally to offer grapes that produce a smooth and natural wine.
Granza Tinta de Toro Roble displays an intense purplish color with cardinal red hues.
On the nose, it releases aromas of black fruits, as well as floral notes (lavender and thyme) and elegant spices (black pepper, clove, and licorice) resulting from its six-month aging in new French and American oak barrels.
On the palate, it is a straightforward, elegant, and complex wine. Its powerful structure of sweet tannins provides liveliness and elegance, with the same aromas present on the nose persisting.
Following the winemaking tradition of his Castilian ancestors, Carlos Moro founded the Matarromera winery in Valbuena de Duero (Valladolid) in 1988 with a clear objective: to create quality wines using the most advanced technology while respecting traditional winemaking methods.
The main challenge undertaken by Carlos Moro was his commitment to new barrels for aging his wines, an initiative that was novel at the time in Ribera del Duero. Another key to Matarromera's success lies in its excellent vineyards, located in a legendary area of the D.O. Ribera del Duero: Valbuena de Duero.
In recent years, the Granza label has been chosen by Bodegas Familiares Matarromera to honor traditional farming practices. It refers to the residues (grain, long straw, husks, etc.) left from wheat and other seeds like barley when winnowed and sifted. This label represents the group's most natural wines, all of which are gluten-free and ideal for vegan consumers.
