General Information

Gramona Mas Escorpí Chardonnay 2023 belongs to the line of wines that Bodegas Gramona produces from foreign varieties planted by this family saga in the Penedès almost a quarter of a century ago. Specifically, the white variety of French origin, which stars in this wine alone, comes from the Mas Escorpí and El Serralet estates, vineyards located at an altitude of 400 meters and worked according to the biodynamic method. These criteria at Gramona not only refer to grape cultivation but also extend to winemaking.

To this certification, recognized with the Demeter seal, another peculiarity is added that makes Gramona Mas Escorpí Chardonnay 2023 an even more exclusive wine. For its production, Bodegas Gramona only selected the tête de cuvée, or in other words, the fermented must from the top part of the vat, which is precisely the one with a higher fruit load and higher quality. The final result is an exceptional white, markedly aromatic, fresh, and glyceric.

Since 1881, Bodegas Gramona has been making great cavas and wines, with tradition and respect for the terroir as their banner. Gramona Mas Escorpí Chardonnay 2023 is a good example of this, a wine that, due to its organoleptic characteristics, can be enjoyed with all kinds of starters, seafood, fish, ceviches, rice dishes, vegetables, and salads.

Tasting notes

In appearance, Gramona Mas Escorpí Chardonnay presents a pale yellow color with bright greenish reflections.

On the nose, it unfolds a wide aromatic range that spans from white fruit (water pear), tropical (pineapple, mango, kiwi), citrus (lime, grapefruit, lemon), to pleasant aniseed memories, passing through subtle touches of white flowers.

The entry on the palate is fresh, medium-bodied, and with fruit weight. Surprisingly glyceric and unctuous. Good acidity that brings great freshness at the end.

The Gramona family represents five generations of winemakers. Since the mid-19th century, they have been working their lands in Sant Sadurní d’Anoia (Barcelona), and today they produce sparkling wines under the prestigious Corpinnat quality label, as well as still wines under the umbrella of the D.O. Penedès. Few wineries have made such significant contributions in recent years to elevate Spanish sparkling wines to the level of the great champagnes.

The sparkling wines of Gramona, crafted by Jaume Gramona, one of the foremost experts on bubbles in our country, achieve remarkable levels of elegance and are characterized by their extended aging periods. These sparkling wines, which garner prestigious international accolades, are made following artisanal processes: natural cork stoppers during aging, riddling racks for clarification, and manual disgorgement.

The Gramona family operates under a biodynamic philosophy across approximately 303 hectares. Of these, 72 hectares are owned by the family, while the rest come from Aliances per la Terra, a viticulturist association founded in 2015 and led by Gramona, which adheres to environmentally respectful practices. In 2014, Gramona obtained the Demeter certification, which guarantees biodynamic farming and winemaking for each wine. A few years later, in 2018, it became the first winery on the Peninsula to receive the BIODYVIN biodynamic certification. The Biodyvin label is a highly demanding certification, specific to the wine sector worldwide, and certifies biodynamic practices in both viticulture and winemaking (winery).
