Garnacha has gone from being underrated to becoming the trendiest grape in Spanish wine. Over the past decade, garnacha wines produced in Aragonese appellations such as Campo de Borja, Calatayud, and Cariñena have been winning over consumers in the U.S. and Great Britain. The markets in these countries warmly welcome these wines, which offer an excellent quality-price ratio and a great balance between fruit and oak. In this vein, we find Godina 2023, crafted by Bodegas Morca, owned by the prestigious Viñas Familia Gil group.
Founded in 2014 in the town of Borja (Zaragoza), Bodegas Morca owns 30 hectares of garnacha vineyards, some with very old vines. Morca's first vintage was in 2014, with only 7,500 bottles released. A small-scale winery that currently markets several brands under the D.O. Campo de Borja, including: Tourán (the most exclusive), Morca (the flagship), and Godina (the most accessible).
When it comes to pairing, at Vinoselección we recommend enjoying Godina 2023 with dishes like vegetable rice or pork ribs with barbecue sauce.
Godina displays, to the eye, a very intense purplish cherry color.
On the nose, it presents a fine and very expressive aroma, where red fruit notes stand out alongside floral hints (violet), balsamic touches, and aromatic herbs, leading to a spiced background.
On the palate, it is balanced, flavorful, luscious, and enveloping, with good acidity and a creamy texture. Elegant, complex, long, and deep.
Godina is a wine that offers finesse and elegance, with moderately intense aromas of spices, licorice, plums, and subtle floral and toasted notes. Its ripe tannins provide a silky texture on the palate, of exceptional purity, well-balanced, and with a long finish.
Bodegas Morca belongs to the Juan Gil Bodegas Familiares group. Morca's first harvest was in 2014, producing only 7,500 bottles. A small-scale winery that currently markets three brands: Tourán (the most exclusive), Morca (the most emblematic), and Godina (the most affordable).
