Fuentespina Reserva 2022 is a single-varietal Tempranillo born in the heart of the D.O. Ribera del Duero. It is produced after a cold maceration, a controlled fermentation and a 16-month ageing in new French oak barrels, followed by a long rest in the winery before hitting the market.
The grapes come from vineyards with an average age of 50 years, a detail that shows in the balance of the ensemble and in that sense of a wine worked with patience, without hurry or shortcuts. There are no artifices here: only strict selection in the vineyard and a process designed to respect the personality of the raw material.
Behind it is Avelino Vegas, a family winery with a long history tied to quality wine in the area. With Fuentespina Reserva 2022, the house signs a serious red, with identity and that note of elegant sobriety that many seek when they want a Reserva with depth and a good presence.

Winemaking
Fuentespina Reserva 2022 is the result of a precise and highly controlled vinification. After destemming and crushing, the selected grapes pass to stainless steel tanks, where they undergo a skin maceration at 5 °C for 72 hours to maximise the primary aromas. Next, the must ferments with a yeast selected by the winery at a constant temperature of 25 °C for 7 to 10 days, with the maceration extended for a further 10 days to increase tannin concentration and refine its structure. Malolactic fermentation takes place in new French oak barrels.
Aging
14 months in French and American oak barrels. It then remains in the bottle for two years before being released onto the market.

Mouth
Fuentespina Reserva 2022 is delicious and fleshy, with great volume, abundant and ripe tannins, a spicy texture that adds character and a firm palate that leads to a long, aromatic and persistent finish, with great finesse. A red with body, structure and excellent persistence on the palate.
The winemaking journey of Avelino Vegas and his family began in 1950. Natives of Santiuste (Segovia), in addition to continuing with their white wine production winery in the D.O. Rueda, in 1993 they made the leap to Ribera del Duero to establish Bodegas Fuentespina. Located in the Burgos municipality of Fuentespina, from which it takes its name, the winery represents the family’s commitment to producing wines of the highest quality.
It has 70 hectares of its own vineyards and an additional 430 hectares of controlled vineyards, closely advising the winegrowers to ensure that the grapes reach the winery at their optimal ripeness. All the vineyards are dedicated to the tempranillo grape and are cultivated at an altitude of between 700 and 1000 m. Moreover, the average age of the vines is 50 years, with several plots planted between 1917 and 1945. The soils are deep, clay-limestone in type. The combination of vine age, altitude, and soil creates an outstanding raw material.
Fuentespina produces more than three million bottles annually and is one of the three wineries that make up the Grupo Avelino Vegas, led by Fernando Vegas, second generation. The other two are Avelino Vegas D.O. Rueda, located in Santiuste (Segovia); and Avelino Vegas D.O. Ribera del Duero, recently established in Peñafiel (Valladolid).
