General Information

The Flower and the Bee Treixadura 2023 is an aromatic and exquisitely fresh white wine that Coto de Gomariz produces with selected grapes from their youngest vineyards planted in the Avia valley, in Ourense.

The granitic soils where these vines grow and the favorable climate they enjoy, combined with the sustainable viticulture practiced, without toxins or chemicals, following the principles of Fukuoka and Steinner, result in a treixadura of the highest quality and purity. In fact, The Flower and the Bee Treixadura represents the perfect starting point for all of Coto de Gomariz’s productions and the most suitable gateway to their world. This is indicated by the very name of the wine, alluding to the very beginning of the entire process: the flower, the bee, and the pollination.

The freshness and the richness of nuances that The Flower and the Bee Treixadura 2023 shows make it an ideal white wine from Ribeiro to accompany seafood and fish of certain complexity such as turbot, salmon, or cod; white meats and slightly cured cheeses.

Tasting notes

Bright yellow color.

On the nose, powerful aromas of mineral orchard and a background of fruit with a lemony hint are combined.

Penetrating palate with notes of sap, juicy fruit (nectarine, pear, orange) and honeysuckle, with a touch of calcareous minerality.

The winery

Coto de Gomariz is the winery of the Carreiro family. Its name refers to the valley and the village of Gomariz in Ourense, where, since the 10th century and as recorded in the general registry of the Kingdom of Simancas, the oldest wine estate in the Iberian Peninsula is located. The origin of the winery dates back to the 1970s when Ricardo Carreiro Ameijeiras, a native of Barro de Gomariz, returned from South America, where he had emigrated, and decided to resume winemaking. He purchased estates and annexed them to the family heritage, and in 1978 planted O Figueiral, the first mechanized vineyard in the area at that time. The first bottles of Coto de Gomariz came to light in the 1980s.

However, it was not until the year 2000, with the construction of the current winery and the management of his son Ricardo Carreiro Álvarez, that Coto de Gomariz became what it is today: one of the leading wineries of the D.O. Ribeiro.

Today, the winery owns 32 hectares of vineyards cultivated throughout the Alvia valley. Under the technical direction of the winemaker Xose Lois Sebio and following a mix of traditional, biodynamic, and ecological techniques, they produce high-expression wines from native grape varieties such as treixadura, godello, loureira, sousón, and mencía.
