Its long ageing period is reflected in its balanced, full palate and lingering finish packed with subtle notes.
Valdemar, which boasts more than 130 years of winemaking history, is one of the wineries that have shaped the modern development of Rioja. A pioneer in winemaking techniques that transformed the region and in defending its own vineyards, now run by the fifth generation of the family, it continues to produce wines that combine tradition and knowledge, cementing its position as an absolute leader in Rioja Alavesa and in the category of wines with long ageing.
The composition of Fincas Valdemar Gran Reserva 2017 reflects the richness of the vineyard: Tempranillo (80%), Mazuelo (10%), Garnacha (6%) and Maturana (4%), aged for 25 months in French and American oak barrels. This combination results in a comprehensive and seductive expression, with a balance between ripe fruit, spicy notes, balsamic touches and a mineral background that enhances its complexity. It's a wine that unfolds slowly and rewards each sip with new sensations.
All this makes Fincas Valdemar Gran Reserva 2017 an exceptional choice for anyone looking for a Rioja with fabulous ageing potential, perfect for enjoying now or for keeping. Founded in 1889, Valdemar is one of the oldest and most important wineries in Spain, a driving force behind the Rioja Alavesa we know today and revolutionary in its concepts. A house currently led by the fifth generation of the Martínez Bujanda family, whose success lies in the perfect combination of historical expertise blended with constant research to achieve the highest quality.
In 1985, Jesús Martínez Bujanda began a new chapter that transformed Valdemar into one of the most innovative wineries of the time: he launched wines onto the market with more intensity and color than the classic Riojas, fully embracing modernity. Additionally, this winery has been a pioneer in the use of temperature control during production and in the fermentation of Viura whites in wood.
Valdemar has developed a wide range of high-quality wines, known for their consistency and great distribution. These wines originate from an extensive estate-owned vineyard: 275 hectares; and are characterized by their long and magnificent aging processes.
