A 'ribera' from CVNE with a Gold Medal at Mundus Vini
With just a handful of vintages on the market, CVNE is already making its mark in the D.O. Ribera del Duero with the wines from its Bodega Bela. This winery, far from its native Rioja, began operations in 2017 in one of the most coveted areas of the Castilian appellation, between the municipalities of Villalba de Duero and Moradillo de Roa (Burgos). Two very distinct areas that bring complementary attributes to the wines – more structure in Moradillo de Roa and more freshness in Villalba de Duero. A project that has been shaped over more than a decade of acquiring these sought-after vineyards. We present their Finca Vallejo Roble 2024 (Gold Medal at Mundus Vini), a fresh and fruity red wine, ideal for everyday enjoyment.
Finca Vallejo Roble 2024 is made from selected tempranillo grapes from vineyards located at 800 m in Villalba de Duero (Burgos), where the climate is continental, and the soils are clay-limestone, ideal for the vine. It ferments in stainless steel tanks and undergoes 6 months of aging in oak barrels.
Under the initials CVNE lies the name of one of the most prominent Spanish wineries on the international scene. Founded in 1879, the Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España maintains its original location in the legendary Barrio de la Estación in Haro, in the heart of Rioja Alta. In recent years, CVNE has expanded its activity to the D.O. Ribera del Duero, where it manages Bodega Bela in the village of Villalba de Duero (Burgos), equipped with 83 hectares of vineyards. The name of the winery pays tribute to the daughter of one of the founders of CVNE and great-grandmother of the current managers: Sofía, affectionately called Bela.
Finca Vallejo Roble 2024 (D.O. Ribera del Duero) is ideal for pairing with roasted lamb from Aranda or bonito a la riojana.

In 2017, the Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España (CVNE) fulfilled the desire to honor the founders of the winery from 1879 by launching the Bodega Bela project in one of the most sought-after areas of the Ribera del Duero Denomination of Origin. This winemaking house, far from its native Rioja, began with an exceptional viticultural heritage of 82 hectares of vineyards, mostly of the tinta del país or tempranillo variety, spread across the Villalba de Duero and Moradillo de Roa regions. Two very distinct areas that contribute complementary attributes to the wines: more structure in Moradillo de Roa and more freshness in Villalba de Duero. A venture that was forged after more than a decade of acquiring these coveted vineyards.
Bela was the affectionate nickname given to Sofía, the daughter of CVNE co-founder Eusebio Real de Asúa, and the great-grandmother of the current leaders of the company. It is a cutting-edge winery with a surface area of 6,000 m² and a large barrel room with a capacity for 10,000 casks.
In 2024, it became one of the highlights of the Spanish wine world when the prestigious publication Wine Spectator selected Bela Crianza 2021 as the only Ribera del Duero wine in its Top 100.
In recent years, Bodega Bela has embarked on its adventure in the neighboring D.O. Rueda, where it is producing verdejo whites that are sure to make waves.
