Service

While many young reds are served straight away and with little preparation, Enrique Mendoza Ladecan 2024 stands out for its freshness and easy-drinking style, so it can be enjoyed without decanting. Served in a glass and opened a few minutes before drinking, it allows its notes of red fruit, wild herbs, and a slightly spicy finish to express themselves better.

Making process

Vintage

Enrique Mendoza Ladecan 2024 originates from a selection of vine plots in calcareous-loam soils in the shaded area of the Sierra del Castellar, with Monastrell as the sole variety. The harvest is carried out manually and in boxes to preserve the integrity and freshness of the grapes before reaching the winery.

Winemaking

Destemmed, the Monastrell grapes enter whole through a conveyor belt into small stainless steel tanks, where controlled-temperature alcoholic fermentation takes place, thus preserving the freshness and the characteristic fruit expression of this single estate wine.

Vineyard

Description

Enrique Mendoza Ladecan 2024 comes from a selection of vineyard plots of dry-farmed bush vines, planted at the foot of the northern slope of the Sierra del Castellar, in the shaded area where the Mediterranean forest helps retain winter rainfall moisture and cushions the extreme summers of Alicante; on calcareous-loam soil and with a traditional planting framework, Monastrell here expresses a fresh, juicy character, marked by the optimal ripeness of the grapes, in an environment where much of the warmer days are shaded by the hillside.

Climate

The vine plots grown on unirrigated bush vines are located in the shade of the northern flank of the Sierra del Castellar, where the slope provides protection from some of the hottest days of summer. The Mediterranean forest also helps retain water from the winter rains, a key support for facing the area’s extreme summers.

Viticulture

In Enrique Mendoza Ladecan 2024, the Monastrell grapes come from V.V. de secano vines located in the shade of the Sierra del Castellar, on calcareous-loam soil and planted in the traditional manner. The viticulture is of a traditional character and relies on the Mediterranean environment to preserve the natural balance of the vineyard.

The harvest is carried out by hand into boxes, a careful process aimed at maintaining the freshness and integrity of the grapes from the vineyard to the winery. It is a precise task. The use of animal-driven farming methods is not specified.

Tasting notes

View

Displays a cherry red colour with violet reflections on the rim and a medium intensity layer, appearing clear and bright in the glass.

Nose

The nose is fresh and precise. The Monastrell provides an optimal, clean, and well-defined ripeness. Notes of mountain herbs and fresh flowers emerge, offering a lively aromatic profile. Subsequently, nuances of black pepper and red fruits appear, with a very clear Mediterranean aromatic background.

Mouth

On the palate, it presents a juicy texture, with a dominance of fresh red fruits and a well-integrated ripeness that provides a very pleasant natural sweetness. Its profile is lively and agile, with an acidity that maintains tension and enhances that sensation of freshness, while the slightly spicy finish leaves a persistent and harmonious aftertaste.

The winery

Bodegas Enrique Mendoza
Bodegas Enrique Mendoza is a family-owned winery founded in 1989 and based in the town of Alfaz del Pi, in Alicante. The seed of the winery was "planted" in the late 1970s by Enrique Mendoza, a viticulturist passionate about enology, who decided to continue the tradition of the Marina Baixa region of producing wine for family consumption.

Today, the project has become well-established, and Bodegas Enrique Mendoza boasts 84.5 hectares of vineyards. The winery prides itself on being a pioneer in the region for introducing renowned international varieties such as the white chardonnay and the red cabernet sauvignon, merlot, pinot, petit verdot, and syrah, while also championing local varieties like monastrell, the queen grape of the D.O. Vinos Alicante, and moscatel.

The winery's philosophy is rooted in respect for the vineyard and the environment, practicing a herbicide- and insecticide-free viticulture with precise care, resulting in wines full of nuances.
