Emina Verdejo Sobre Lías 2025 is a white wine produced in the Denominación de Origen Rueda by Bodegas Familiares Matarromera, owned by Carlos Moro. Rueda wines have become a point of reference for quality white wines produced in Spain. They are made from a native grape variety, Verdejo, which has the potential to produce great-quality whites at unbeatable prices. Bodegas Familiares Matarromera was aware of Rueda's potential and embarked on a new venture in Medina del Campo that combined a winery equipped with the latest technology, vineyards guaranteed to deliver the highest quality, and the experience gained from its previous enterprises. This winery creates modern, fresh wines such as Emina Verdejo.
Emina Verdejo Sobre Lías 2025 was grown in the winery's own vineyards on the Las Marcas estate in Villalba de Adaja (Valladolid), which has sandy loam soils. Following extensive research, Emina Verdejo is the firm’s first wine to be fermented with native yeast, that is, yeast sourced from the vineyard itself. The result is an absolutely unique Rueda with distinctive flavours of tropical fruits. Following 10–14 days of fermentation in stainless steel tanks at 16°C, it was aged on the lees for 3 months.
Bodegas Familiares Matarromera is one of the leading wine-producing groups on the international scene. From Ribera del Duero, the company has expanded its operations along the banks of the Duero River and has even reached Rioja. Behind this company is the entrepreneur Carlos Moro, a man who has succeeded in securing a foremost position for each of his firms in their respective regions.
Emina Verdejo Sobre Lías 2025 is a single-varietal wine with a straw-yellow colour and greenish hues, clean and very bright. Very intense nose with aromas of passion fruit, grapefruit, pineapple and fennel. Well-structured on the palate. Excellent length and balance between the fresh acidity and elegant bitterness of the Verdejo grape, and intense flavours of tropical fruits and lively citrussy hints.
Integrated into the society Bodegas Familiares Matarromera, Emina is one of the Spanish brands that best embodies the concepts of innovation and sustainability. Emina produces wines in three Castilian appellations: Ribera del Duero, Rueda, and Cigales.
In the D.O. Rueda, it established itself in 2007, the year it built the Emina Rueda winery near the town of Medina del Campo (Valladolid). Here, it produces white wines with verdejo and sauvignon blanc grapes—wines that prioritize fruity expression and are born from meticulously cared-for vineyards.
This is a winery always at the forefront of sustainability, holding the SWfCP Plus certification and being the first to measure the carbon footprint of one of its wines, specifically Emina Verdejo Sobre Lías, which is made with its own yeast. Emina Rueda is committed to wine tourism and offers experiences such as visiting its extraordinary Garden of White Grape Varieties and olive trees.
