General Information

Emina Reserva 2020 is a single-varietal Tempranillo from a year that was rated Excellent in the D.O. Ribera del Duero. The bunches, from south-facing plots in Valbuena de Duero, were harvested by hand in small twelve-kg crates and quickly transported to the winery. Alcoholic fermentation took place in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature (26º C). The wine was then aged for fifteen months in oak barrels.

Emina is much more than a winery; it’s a way of understanding wine and an example of how cutting-edge technology can do great things for winegrowing. With Emina, Carlos Moro, the owner of Bodegas Familiares Matarromera, wished to take innovation one step further and certainly succeeded: wine soft drinks, alcohol-free wine, new winemaking techniques… All in all, it’s a firm that gives maximum priority to research and development, respecting the oldest winemaking traditions.

Based in Valbuena de Duero, in the ‘golden mile’ of Ribera del Duero, Emina is furthermore a winery that produces quality wines and a Wine Interpretation Centre that’s a must-visit. There the firm owns 80 hectares of vineyards, where Tempranillo is the main variety.

Emina Reserva 2020 (D.O. Ribera del Duero) is ideal with roast pork or stewed beans with partridge.

Tasting notes

Displays a gorgeous cherry-red colour with a deep garnet-red rim, medium-high pigmentation and bright and lively. Prominent notes of ripe red fruit (plum and cherry) in the nose, followed by spicy notes of black pepper and vanilla and ending with very fine balsamic touches that blend with hints of liquorice and clear aromas of dark chocolate. Medium-bodied, flavourful and balanced on the attack. Fruit-forward on mid-palate, with nice spicy and subtle toasty notes. Enjoy the superb acidic bite that makes it fresh and supple. Long, complex finish marked by notes of cherries in brandy and subtle smoky hints.

Creators' opinion

The winery

Bodega Emina Ribera

Emina Ribera is the second winery founded in Ribera del Duero by the agronomist and winemaker Carlos Moro, following Matarromera. A brand characterized by its commitment to quality, innovation, and sustainability. Paloma Moro, the founder's daughter, is the current president of Emina.

The winery produces wines from its own carefully cultivated vineyards. The vines are intelligently monitored; they receive water, fertilizers, or phytosanitary treatments only when strictly necessary. The result is a reduction in their water footprint and respect for local biodiversity.

Commitment to environmental care is a fundamental part of its DNA. In fact, it was the first Spanish company with AENOR certification to measure its carbon footprint. It also holds the Wineries for Climate Protection certification and is part of International Wineries for Climate Action (IWCA), an association dedicated to combating climate change through innovative strategies to reduce carbon emissions.

Emina has two production facilities: one located in the D.O. Ribera del Duero, in the municipality of Valbuena de Duero; and another in the D.O. Rueda. Additionally, it is present in Cigales, and from early 2024, in the D.O. Rías Baixas. In this way, its portfolio encompasses a wide variety of wine types: whites, rosés, barrel-fermented whites, sparkling wines, and reds.
