General Information

Emina Ribera is much more than a winery; it is a way of understanding wine and an example of how the most modern technology can work wonders in the service of viticulture. With Emina, Carlos Moro, owner of Bodegas Familiares Matarromera, aimed to take innovation to the next level, and he certainly achieved it. Wine-based beverages, dealcoholized wines, new production techniques. In short, it is a brand that maximizes research and development while respecting the most ancestral winemaking traditions.

Emina Atio 2019 is a wine born in this winery located in Valbuena de Duero, in the heart of the "golden mile" of the D.O. Ribera del Duero, where it boasts 80 hectares of its own vineyards. Among its majestic viticultural heritage, the Pago del Horno stands out, where the Tempranillo grapes that make up this sublime red wine are cultivated.

The Pago del Horno, where Emina Atio 2019 originates, is a highly calcareous 6.5-hectare plot situated at a high altitude of around 850 meters above sea level. A truly privileged estate within the Denomination of Origin Ribera del Duero.

Tasting notes

Beautiful deep ripe cherry color with an intense garnet rim, well-covered layer, lively and bright to the eye.

On the nose, it is fragrant, intense, broad, and very complex. The aromatic journey begins with clear notes of ripe black fruit, hints of Mediterranean scrubland, and balsamic echoes. Later, it unfolds with intensity, spicy reminiscences (pink pepper), and hints of fine woods (cedar). It finishes with notes of dark chocolate, coffee, and licorice.

On the palate, it is flavorful, meaty, with a good structure, and stands out for its great balance between acidity, body, and alcohol. It enjoys excellent freshness, which will accompany it throughout its bottle aging phase. Flavors of blackberry accompanied by echoes of chocolate and toasted notes (coffee). Persistent and fresh finish.

Creators' opinion

The winery

Bodega Emina Ribera

Emina Ribera is the second winery founded in Ribera del Duero by the agronomist and winemaker Carlos Moro, following Matarromera. A brand characterized by its commitment to quality, innovation, and sustainability. Paloma Moro, the founder's daughter, is the current president of Emina.

The winery produces wines from its own carefully cultivated vineyards. The vines are intelligently monitored; they receive water, fertilizers, or phytosanitary treatments only when strictly necessary. The result is a reduction in their water footprint and respect for local biodiversity.

Commitment to environmental care is a fundamental part of its DNA. In fact, it was the first Spanish company with AENOR certification to measure its carbon footprint. It also holds the Wineries for Climate Protection certification and is part of International Wineries for Climate Action (IWCA), an association dedicated to combating climate change through innovative strategies to reduce carbon emissions.

Emina has two production facilities: one located in the D.O. Ribera del Duero, in the municipality of Valbuena de Duero; and another in the D.O. Rueda. Additionally, it is present in Cigales, and from early 2024, in the D.O. Rías Baixas. In this way, its portfolio encompasses a wide variety of wine types: whites, rosés, barrel-fermented whites, sparkling wines, and reds.
