Making process

Winemaking

Designed to accompany fish, shellfish, and Asian cuisine, Emina Albariño 2023 is produced in Salvaterra de Miño from a blend of grapes from the Condado do Tea and Val do Salnés. The vinification focuses on slow fermentations carried out at low temperatures to preserve the aromatic integrity of the grape. It is a slow and precise process.

While no specific maceration is detailed, a careful fermentation is employed, aimed at maintaining the floral and citrus profile of the wine, with cellar work seeking balance, freshness, and a clean fruit expression. The result is an Atlantic-character Albariño, characterised by a calm and controlled fermentation.

Aging

Emina Albariño 2023 has been aged on fine lees for approximately 4 months following fermentation. This resting period provides greater balance, freshness and volume to the wine, enhancing its Atlantic character.

Vineyard

Description

The wine originates from Salvaterra de Miño, made from grapes selected in the Condado do Tea and the Val do Salnés, in a trellised vineyard that promotes optimal sun exposure and reflects the Atlantic character of the region. The 2022 harvest was marked by a scarcity of rainfall throughout much of the year, resulting in fruit of great concentration and good integration with its acidity. The production involves the Albariño variety, carefully crafted to preserve its aromatic expression and the natural tension of the grape.

Climate

Emina Albariño is expressed in a markedly Atlantic environment, in Salvaterra de Miño, with the influence of Galician trellises and the strength of the ocean very present.

Viticulture

Bodega Emina works with traditional viticulture, linked to the own trellising system of Salvaterra de Miño and plots from the Condado do Tea and the Val do Salnés. The harvest is carried out manually in 12 kg boxes, a precise task that allows for better grape selection and respects its integrity. This careful approach in the vineyard aims to preserve the Atlantic character of Albariño and to produce grapes with good concentration and natural freshness.

Tasting notes

View

In the glass, Emina Albariño 2023 displays a straw yellow colour with golden tones, clear and sparkling, a visual presentation that conveys freshness and evident care in its production; its golden gleam and liveliness evoke the Atlantic character typical of Galician vineyards and reinforce the impression of a well-crafted and balanced wine.

Nose

The aromatic phase offers a clear and precise aromatic response, with the necessary intensity to express the Atlantic profile of this wine. A frank, high-intensity nose with floral and citrus notes that provide freshness and definition.

In the background, pineapple appears, adding a bright, juicy fruit note. The vegetal undertone completes the ensemble, giving it persistence and balance, while maintaining a clean, well-integrated aromatic sensation.

Mouth

On the palate, it presents as balanced, with an Atlantic character and excellent weight in the centre of the mouth. Its passage is very dense throughout the entire palate, with the fruit perfectly integrated, giving it volume and a very complete gustatory sensation. The result is a fresh and light wine, but with enough structure to leave a harmonious and persistent impression.

The winery

Bodega Emina Ribera

Emina Ribera is the second winery founded in Ribera del Duero by the agronomist and winemaker Carlos Moro, following Matarromera. A brand characterized by its commitment to quality, innovation, and sustainability. Paloma Moro, the founder's daughter, is the current president of Emina.

The winery produces wines from its own carefully cultivated vineyards. The vines are intelligently monitored; they receive water, fertilizers, or phytosanitary treatments only when strictly necessary. The result is a reduction in their water footprint and respect for local biodiversity.

Commitment to environmental care is a fundamental part of its DNA. In fact, it was the first Spanish company with AENOR certification to measure its carbon footprint. It also holds the Wineries for Climate Protection certification and is part of International Wineries for Climate Action (IWCA), an association dedicated to combating climate change through innovative strategies to reduce carbon emissions.

Emina has two production facilities: one located in the D.O. Ribera del Duero, in the municipality of Valbuena de Duero; and another in the D.O. Rueda. Additionally, it is present in Cigales, and from early 2024, in the D.O. Rías Baixas. In this way, its portfolio encompasses a wide variety of wine types: whites, rosés, barrel-fermented whites, sparkling wines, and reds.
