More than three decades ago, the Fernández Rivera family decided to expand their work with the Tempranillo variety in Ribera del Duero into Tierra del Vino in Zamora, where they’ve been enjoying success with their elegant wines. We’re offering you the first release of one of the best vintages produced there to date: the red Dehesa La Granja Selección Especial 2021, made from Tempranillo grapes and barrel aged for 15 months.

The close relationship Vinoselección has enjoyed with the Fernández Rivera family for decades enables us to offer you the first release of the 2021 vintage made at Dehesa La Granja. It’s a powerful vintage, full of Atlantic character and unquestionable elegance – undoubtedly the best harvest recorded at the winery in the past decade and one of the best ever, which has left its mark on this Dehesa La Granja Selección Especial 2021.
This red wine is made from the best Tempranillo grapes from the 120 hectares of the Dehesa La Granja estate, a vineyard that’s reached its peak. The winemaking process sticks to the magic recipe of Familia Fernández Rivera: Tempranillo and American oak. This wine has been aged for 15 months in barrels in the winery’s underground cellars.
Dehesa La Granja is located in Vadillo de Guareña (Zamora), an area of no viticultural value until the arrival of Familia Fernández Rivera in the 1990s. Noticing its great potential, the saga acquired this huge property and planted Tempranillo vines from Condado de Haza, their other great winery in Ribera del Duero together with Tinto Pesquera. The Dehesa La Granja estate has an underground cave of more than 3,000 m2, where the firm’s wines are matured in optimum conditions.
When the Fernández Rivera family arrived in Vadillo de Guareña, few people could imagine the enormous potential of the vineyard planted by Alejandro Fernández in this part of the province of Zamora. Vinoselección has believed in the firm since its first harvest back in 1998 and we were pioneers in presenting the first wines from this 120-hectare Tempranillo estate.
Dehesa La Granja Selección Especial 2021 (V.T. Castilla y León) is the perfect accompaniment to red meat dishes, such as sirloin steak in red wine mustard. It’s also good with soupy rice.
Gorgeous ripe cherry-red cherry colour with a deep garnet-red rim, very intensely pigmented. Fragrant, intense nose with a broad range of aromas. Initial fruity notes (cherries in liqueur and very ripe blueberries) are followed by hints of spice (vanilla and star anise) and notes of toasted cedar, ending with balsamic hints and Mediterranean scrubland (rockrose and rosemary). Full, flavoursome and well-structured on the attack, with fine, ripe tannins that give it volume and character on mid-palate. A fruit-driven wine with a pleasant warmth. Pleasantly long, elegant finish with prominent flavours of very ripe red fruit together with elegant hints of spice.
Familia Fernández Rivera has been showcasing the virtues of the tempranillo grape for years. After achieving stardom with Tinto Pesquera (D.O. Ribera del Duero) in their homeland, this family expanded their empire by founding Condado de Haza, also in Ribera del Duero. Shortly after, they established the Manchegan winery El Vínculo and the Zamoran winery Dehesa La Granja.
Dehesa La Granja is located in Vadillo de Guareña (Zamora), an area with no winemaking value until the arrival of Familia Fernández Rivera. Foreseeing its great potential, the family acquired this vast estate and planted tempranillo vines sourced from Condado de Haza. They produced their first harvest in 1998. The estate features an 18th-century underground cave of 3,000 m², where their wines age under optimal conditions. In addition to winemaking, the family dedicates this estate to agricultural and livestock production.
