Matarromera expanded into the D.O. Toro in 1999 with Bodegas Cyan, a winery that produces no more than 150,000 bottles per year and keeps up its high standards. Its vineyard is its most prized asset: the coveted Finca La Calera near Valdefinjas, the most exclusive estate in the Denominación de Origen on account of its envious infertile soils where pre-phylloxera vines can still be found, a real gem that all wineries dream of but only a few manage to own. Finca La Calera is named after its infertile chalky soils in hillsides that give wines a special touch that makes them unique and are exceptionally well suited to growing quality grapes. Find out for yourself with this spectacular Cyan de Matarromera Crianza 2021, a red that’s the result of our close relationship with this family and can be enjoyed exclusively by Vinoselección’s customers.
The Cyan de Matarromera range began with Cyan de Matarromera 2012, a red that was designed by the winery specially for Vinoselección. It differed from the traditional, potent Toro wines and was more similar to those made by the mother company in Ribera del Duero, Matarromera, with an emphasis on balance, elegance and harmony. We’ve gilded the lily with this new version because for the first time it displays the Crianza classification, placing it in a higher category.
Cyan de Matarromera Crianza 2021 is made from a selection of Tinta de Toro grapes grown on organic vines and from a vintage rated as Excellent by the regulatory board of the D.O. It’s been matured to perfection for 6 months in French oak barrels and is ideal with char-grilled entrecote of beef.
Expressive ripe cherry-red with a deep garnet-red rim, medium pigmentation and bright.
Elegant, fragrant and complex nose. Initial aromas of ripe black fruit that blend with hints of fine woods (cedar), followed by subtle hints of woodland and balsamic notes (liquorice) and continuing with abundant spicy notes of vanilla and cloves.
Intense, expressive nose with fresh aromas of red and black fruit such as plum, cherry, blackberry and strawberry and elegant tertiary aromas from barrel ageing such as coffee, spices, dairy and liquorice.
Ripe and flavoursome on the attack with very balanced and fine tactile sensations on mid-palate with no loss of expression or fullness. Fruity flavours of blackcurrant and cherry combine with smoky notes and notes of cocoa, and an excellent acidity that makes the sensations longer lasting. Excellent finish with spicy hints of vanilla.
The entrepreneur Carlos Moro founded Matarromera (D.O. Ribera del Duero) in 1988, a winery that achieved resounding success. Following this, the formation and expansion of the Matarromera Group began, which today is one of the most important wine empires in the country. Bodega Cyan (D.O. Toro) has been part of its successful portfolio of wineries since 1999.
Cyan drives the renewal and the great qualitative leap of the wines from D.O. Toro. A winery committed to making the most of some of the best vineyards of the native Tinta de Toro grape. It has 53 hectares of vineyards cultivated along the axis of the Valdefinjas valley, in one of the most coveted areas of the region, boasting a high percentage of old vines, the most valuable ones.
Following the model of the prestigious reds from Matarromera, Bodegas Cyan began a renewal in the style of its wines in 2010. A fresh approach to achieve more harmonious and balanced reds, with less presence of oak and greater elegance, focusing on meticulous vineyard care, precision winemaking, and aging in the finest barrels. We explore some of the best wines from the winery and complete the offering with two extra virgin olive oils produced in the group’s mill.
