Crafted outside any designation of origin, Cuvée Esplendor de Vardon Kennett 2014 is a magnificent signature sparkling wine, created by Vardon Kennett, the new winery of the Torres family in their native Penedès.
The high quality of the pinot noir, chardonnay, and xarel·lo grapes that compose it, along with its long aging on lees for 30 months, bring Cuvée Esplendor de Vardon Kennett 2015 closer to the most select French champagnes.
Vardon Kennett is the prestigious winery of the Torres family, exclusively dedicated to the production of high-end sparkling wines, located on their estate in Santa Margarida d’Agulladolç, with vineyards situated over 500 meters above sea level. Partially fermented in barrels and with the second fermentation entirely in the bottle, as per the traditional method, this Cuvée Esplendor de Vardon Kennett 2015 showcases freshness and elegance in equal parts, wrapped in pleasant and fine bubbles, destined to become one of the most outstanding references of the Alt Penedès.
Tasting notes
On the nose, it exhibits delicate yet vibrant citrus notes alongside aromas, in a secondary layer, of toasted brioche with a clean mineral touch.
On the palate, it is fresh, delicious, elegant, and with a long finish. Fine bubbles.
Vardon Kennett is the winery exclusively dedicated to producing high-quality sparkling wines for the Torres family in Alt Penedès. Located on the Santa Margarida d’Agulladolç Estate, the winery owes its name to Daniel Vardon Kennett, a British navigator and merchant who settled there at the end of the 19th century after marrying the estate’s heiress, María Francisca de Ferrer. Enchanted by the vineyards and wines of the area, Daniel devoted himself to exporting them to England and the island of Guernsey, where he was originally from.
Today, Vardon Kennett produces Cuvée Esplendor, a spectacular coupage of the traditional varieties of the great French champagnes, pinot noir and chardonnay, perfectly complemented by the native xarel·lo, a classic grape of Catalan cava. The three grape varieties are grown in the family’s own vineyards, situated on plots at an altitude of over 500 meters above sea level. The tribute to the figure of the estate’s former owner goes beyond the winery’s name. The design of the Esplendor bottle, with sinuous lines and reliefs reminiscent of ocean waves, also evokes his past as a navigator, while the crest on the label is the original one that still adorns the main facade of the property.
