General Information

The first Cune wines (formerly known as Tercer Año) produced in the Haro Winery of the Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España were made in the style of the claret wines from Bordeaux's Médoc until they evolved into what we now know as the essential Cune Crianza. Cune Crianza Mágnum 2021 originates from vineyards in different locations with diverse soils, ages, and orientations situated in Rioja Alta, close to CVNE, a location that facilitates the quick arrival of the grapes at the winery in the best conditions for winemaking. After the fermentation of the grapes at controlled temperature, with the aim of preserving the fruity expression that characterizes this red wine, a maceration of approximately twelve days is carried out, followed by malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Subsequently, the resulting wine is aged for twelve months in American oak barrels, where it develops its excellent bouquet.

Currently, CVNE is a global benchmark in the wine sector. Fifty percent of the grapes they use come from their own vineyards, while the rest are purchased from farmers in the best areas of La Rioja. From the vineyards of Rioja Alta, they label the Imperial range of wines (the flagship of the brand since the 1920s) and the wines under the Cune brand. The Haro Winery consists of a group of 19th-century buildings that have been fully updated and house the most modern winemaking technologies. Cune is one of the oldest wineries in the D.O.Ca. Rioja. By 1900, it already had an extraordinary aging capacity of 80,000 bottles, something uncommon at a time when it was usual to distribute wine as quickly as possible.

The Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España is one of the great symbols of the Estación de Haro neighborhood, the great capital of Rioja wine. Founded in 1879 by the brothers Raimundo and Eusebio Real de Asúa, CVNE (as it is known worldwide) can proudly claim to have remained at the top throughout its history. Ten years after its creation, the winery inaugurated an impressive barrel hall designed by the studio of Alexandre Gustave Eiffel. By 1900, it was already producing nearly 80,000 bottles, an unthinkable feat for the time. The 20th century established CVNE as an institution of Spanish wine.

Over 140 years, it has successfully combined tradition and innovation to create wines that today are the standard-bearers of Rioja reds and have garnered international critical acclaim. Its Imperial Gran Reserva 2004 made history when it was chosen as Wine of the Year 2013 by the prestigious American magazine Wine Spectator, marking the first time a Spanish wine received this recognition.

Since its foundation, CVNE has expanded its heritage and grown with avant-garde projects at different times in its history, such as the creation of Viñedos del Contino or Viña Real.
