Bodegas Valdemar is a family firm whose origins date back to the nineteenth century. It’s currently run by the fifth generation. It combines a long tradition with constant innovation to achieve the highest quality in its wines. Conde Valdemar is its best-known label and a leading name in Rioja. The rosé version combines the red Garnacha grape with the white Viura. The result is a wine belonging to the family of pale, subtle rosés with prominent floral notes which in this case are combined with hints of red fruits and lots of freshness. Conde Valdemar Rosè 2023 has already won a gold medal at the Berliner Trophy 2024 and a silver medal at Mundus Vini 2024.

General Information

Conde Valdemar Rosé 2023 is made from grapes grown in the winery’s own vineyards. The red Garnacha variety accounts for 60%, and the white Viura the remaining 40%; both varieties have a long tradition in Rioja vineyards. This wine was made using the bleeding-off method at a low temperature. Fermentation took place in stainless steel vats at a temperature of 16º C for 20 days.

In 1985 Jesús Martínez Bujanda, a member of one of the families with the longest history in the sector, embarked on a new stage that turned Valdemar into one of the most innovative firms of the day: he launched wines with more intense flavours and greater depth of colour than the classic Riojas, blazing a new, modern trail. Ana and Jesús Martínez Bujanda, the founder’s children, are currently at the helm of the winery. They have inherited the pioneering and non-conformist character of the previous generation and continue to add to the range of wines.

The firm’s wines are grown in the extensive vineyards itowns and are widely distributed. Conde Valdemar is the top range.

Conde Valdemar Rosé 2023 (D.O.Ca. Rioja) is ideal with duck and porcini noodles.

Creators' opinion

This rosé is notable for its delicate pale pink colour with bright glints. It exhibits an elegant aroma with predominant notes of fine flowers, rosewater and a selection of fresh fruit, including wild strawberry and raspberry. Subtle attack and exceptionally smooth mid-palate with floral hints and a touch of spice. Fresh and silky finish.

The winery

Bodegas Valdemar

Founded in 1889, Valdemar is one of the oldest and most important wineries in Spain, a driving force behind the Rioja Alavesa we know today and revolutionary in its concepts. A house currently led by the fifth generation of the Martínez Bujanda family, whose success lies in the perfect combination of historical expertise blended with constant research to achieve the highest quality.

In 1985, Jesús Martínez Bujanda began a new chapter that transformed Valdemar into one of the most innovative wineries of the time: he launched wines onto the market with more intensity and color than the classic Riojas, fully embracing modernity. Additionally, this winery has been a pioneer in the use of temperature control during production and in the fermentation of Viura whites in wood.

Valdemar has developed a wide range of high-quality wines, known for their consistency and great distribution. These wines originate from an extensive estate-owned vineyard: 275 hectares; and are characterized by their long and magnificent aging processes.
