This Cava from the Rioja winery Muga is made exclusively from Garnacha grapes and offers an elegant expression of the freshness of the vineyards of Alto Najerilla. Conde de Haro Brut Rosé 2022 was aged for a long 36 months in the bottle. It has a lively acidity, great length and complexity on the palate, and hints of red berries and citrus fruits in the finish.
Serving temperature
Conde de Haro Brut Rosé 2021 is made entirely from Garnacha grapes harvested by hand and transported to the winery in refrigerated crates. They were directly pressed, and the base wine was fermented in small tanks at a controlled temperature of 14–15ºC to preserve all the fruity aromas. Following fermentation, the wine was left to mature on its lees for four months, to give it added body. After tirage, the second fermentation took place in the bottle for four months at 12ºC. It was then matured for 36 months on racks before disgorging, being kept at a low temperature to preserve its freshness and rich aromas.
Muga is one of the most reliable and well-known firms in Rioja. Founded in 1932 by the family it's named after, the Mugas, it's now run by seven third-generation cousins. It started out in a modest winery on a central street in Haro, but in 1970 it moved to new facilities in the town’s famous station district.
Muga is characterised by its faithfulness to traditional production methods: gravity racking, clarification with egg whites, and all red wines are produced, fermented and aged in oak (there is no stainless steel in the winery). It’s also one of the few Spanish wineries that has its own cooperage.
However, in the vineyard it uses modern technology to monitor the plants. This winery is also notable for its expertise in ageing, especially for long periods, as its red wines are matured for longer than stipulated by the regulatory council of the D.O.Ca. Rioja. It has two distinct product lines: a more classical range consisting of Muga and Prado Enea; and a more modern range with Torre Muga and the top Aro. Added to these are the new Flor de Muga label, which includes both white and rosé versions, and the Conde de Haro Cavas. All of these wines have elegance in their genes and are extremely well received.
Salmon pink in colour, bright and clean, with fine, well-integrated bubbles forming a delicate mousse that reflects the traditional production method and long ageing on racks.
Aromatically expressive and complex, with high intensity. Aromas typical of fermentation on the lees are detectable on the nose, with distinct hints of fine bakery and brioche and creamy notes of strawberry yoghurt, as well as ripe red fruits such as raspberry and blackberry, characteristic of Garnacha.
Fresh and balanced on the attack, with very good bubble integration. Creamy texture provided by ageing on the lees. Marked acidity offset by its creaminess, bringing freshness on the palate. Clean and lingering finish, with hints of red fruit and subtle citrus notes.
Bodegas Muga is one of the most reliable and recognizable names in Rioja, founded in 1932 by the family that gives it its name: the Muga family, now led by the third generation. Its history began in a modest winery located on a central street in Haro, but in 1970, it inaugurated new facilities in the famous Barrio de la Estación in the same town. Muga is characterized by its commitment to traditional winemaking: gravity racking, egg white fining, and all red wines are made, fermented, and aged in oak (there is no stainless steel in the winery). It is also one of the few Spanish wineries with its own cooperage. However, in the vineyard, it embraces modern technology, monitoring the plants.
It is also distinguished by its mastery of aging, especially long aging, as its red wines exceed the aging times stipulated by the Regulatory Council of the D.O.Ca. Rioja. Its portfolio is divided into two lines: a more classic line with the Muga and Prado Enea range, and a more modern one with Torre Muga and the ‘top’ Aro. These are joined by the new Flor de Muga label, available in white and rosé versions. All of these wines have elegance in their DNA, with outstanding acceptance.
It boasts exceptional vineyards of tempranillo, garnacha, graciano, and mazuelo, located in the valleys of the Oja and Tirón rivers. In these lands, soil and climate come together to offer exceptional conditions for the vine, something the Muga family takes full advantage of to craft their renowned wines.
