The D.O. Toro is on the rise, mainly because its wines combine the characteristic potency of the Tinta de Toro red grape and elegance. Moving on to eastern Spain, we’ve focused on the D.O. Jumilla, a region that’s made the international spotlight in record time thanks to its excellent Monastrell reds. This grape variety also achieves wonderful expression in the neighbouring D.O. Alicante. Enjoy two of Spain’s best native varieties with these three magnificent reds, all aged in oak barrels..

General Information

With such distinguished residents as the Tempos Vega Sicilia group and winemaker Mariano García, the area around San Román de Hornija (D.O. Toro) has become synonymous with outstanding wines. It’s also home to Bodega Elías Mora and the 12 hectares of old vineyards that Victoria Benavides works with, thanks to her friendship with the local winegrower Elías Mora (hence the name of the winery). It’s an honour for us to present for the first time Viñas Elías Mora 2023, the youngest wine from this keywinery. A red with predominant fruity notes enhanced by the hints from barrel ageing (6 months of ageing).

Jumilla is identified with one of the best native grapes in Spain: Monastrell, with its valuable dry-farmed and gobelet-trained vines, conditioned by the harsh climate. Casa Castillo La Tendida 2022 (93 Peñín points) is an organic wine made from 85% Monastrell grapes grown on old vines, enhanced with a touch of Garnacha. It’s been aged for 14 months in foudres and is an ideal way of savouring the uniqueness of one of the most interesting Spanish Denominaciones.

The last wine in the collection comes from Enrique Mendoza, a family-run winery that played a pioneering role in the production of quality wines in the D.O. Alicante. Enrique Mendoza Finca Xaconero 2022 is designed to reflect the distinctive character of this area based on the main grape variety of the Mediterranean area:  Monastrell. The grapes that went into making it came from old vines from the winery's most valuable estate: Finca el Chaconero (or Xaconero). Refined in oak barrels.
