Terra Alta (Tarragona) is possibly the region with the greatest projection in recent years in Catalonia. This is a region of high-altitude vineyards located on terraces on limestone soils, conditions that define the character of its wines, made mainly with the Garnacha grape. This variety is the basis of magnificent rosé wines that stand out for their fruity character, such as Clua El Solà d'en Pol 2023. This wine bears the signature of a winery with a long winemaking tradition, vibrant and elegant, with a velvety, complex and incredibly fruity mouth. But you have to discover it for yourself!

General Information

Clua Solà d'en Pol 2023 is a coupage or mix of the traditional Garnacha grape (70%) and the international Syrah (30%), which provides structure. These are two varieties with a Mediterranean character that complement each other perfectly in this rosé. The wine is nourished by the winery's own vineyards, from the La Cova, Mas d'en Pol and Pla Ancola plots, from clay and limestone soils, poor in organic matter, but rich in elements that help its drainage. The grapes were harvested in the third and fourth week of September and macerated for 4 hours.

This rosé is made using the bleeding technique and controlled fermentation at a temperature between 16°C and 18°C.  The wine then remained in stainless steel tanks for about 4 months. The result is a bright raspberry-coloured rosé, with aromas of fresh fruit and floral echoes. On the palate its balanced acidity is noticeable, along with its density and creaminess.

The D.O. Terra Alta (Tarragona) is located in the south of Catalonia, between the Ebro River and the border with Aragon: a land with a winemaking tradition that dates back to the Middle Ages, with complex orography, surrounded by different mountains and crossed by small valleys. Characterised by its high-altitude vineyards located on natural terraces on limestone soils, these are conditions that give personality to its wines. The vines are cultivated on dry-farmed land, and among the varieties cultivated, Garnacha is a protagonist in its different variants: tinta, blanca and peluda grapes/

The Xavier Clua winery (2017) is named after its founder, the fourth generation of a family of winegrowers and winemakers, and is characterised by its focus on sustainable viticulture and its commitment to quality. The company works only 24 hectares of its own vineyard and maintains a limited production of 90,000 bottles that enables it to obtain a careful selection of the grapes produced on its estates. It is located in Vilalba dels Arcs, one of the twelve municipalities that make up Terra Alta, opening its new winery in 2006, although the ageing of the wines continues to be done in the basement of the previous winery, located in the town centre.

The cierzo and garbi winds help to achieve healthy vines and their vineyards are worked with the trellis system, thus increasing the exposure of the grapes to the sun. They mainly grow the Garnacha Blanca, Garnacha Tinta and Garnacha Peluda varieties.

Clua El Solà d'en Pol 2023 (D.O. Terra Alta) is ideal along with rabbit with garlic or a brothy rice dish.
