General Information

Clos Adrien 2017 is the result of a high-quality and distinctive 'clos', included in the parcel wine project of the Catalan winery Terra Remota. Bathed by a Mediterranean climate, warm and dry, the Adrien plot is planted with syrah and garnacha vines cultivated organically on granite soils located in the Alt Empordà.

For the production of Clos Adrien, vinification was carried out by variety. After the selection and destemming of the bunches and gravity-fed tank filling, the must was extracted through daily punch-downs. Alcoholic fermentation took place at a controlled temperature of 20-22ºC, with a maceration of 6 weeks and subsequent aging of the wine for 24 months in 500 and 300-liter French oak barrels. The blending was done at the end of the aging process along with cold stabilization and gentle filtration. The result is an exceptional red wine with a sweet and intense nose, expressive and complex, with a structured and fresh palate, good tension, and subtle, well-integrated tannins.

On the granite soils of the Empordà area, at the foot of the Albera mountain range, Marc and Emma Bournazeau, a French couple of Spanish origin, have created one of the most interesting wineries in Catalonia. Terra Remota originated in 1999 when they decided to purchase an estate of more than 40 hectares in the Terra Alta region of Girona, where they would cultivate 23 hectares of vineyards that, since 2012, have been certified as organic agriculture.

Clos Adrien 2017 (D.O. Empordà) pairs perfectly with game meats, such as wild boar or deer, roasted or in sauce. It is also excellent with red meats like veal or beef.

Tasting notes

Garnet red color with purple highlights, intense and bright.

Sweet and intense nose. Notes of ripe black fruits and spices appear, complex, mineral, with hints of sweet spices, cocoa, vanilla, and brioche.

On the palate, it is structured, complex, intense, fresh, and with good tension, fine and elegant. Notes of black fruits like plum stand out. The tannins are subtle and well-integrated. The finish is also sweet, with an iodine touch and long-lasting.

The winery

Terra Remota
Winery

Bodegas Terra Remota is the winery of Marc and Emma Bournezeau, a couple of French origin but with Catalan roots (Emma's grandfather went into exile in France after the Spanish Civil War). For the family, the winery represents a return to their origins and the recovery of a lost identity. In the year 2000, they acquired some land in Empordà after realizing the excellent conditions the area offered for producing quality wines. Thus, in 2006, the family winery was founded.

The winery is located in the northeasternmost corner of the Iberian Peninsula, in the Alt Empordà region (Girona), within the D.O. Empordà. It is a unique, solitary place, a remote land, as the winery's name suggests, situated between the villages of Capmany and Sant Climent Sescebes. A modern building designed by Pepe Cortés alongside architect Nacho Ferrero, perfectly integrated with the terrain and conceived with a focus on environmental respect, technical functionality, contemporaneity, and transparency. These are the concepts that underpin their elegant and fresh wines, which clearly prioritize quality, respect for raw materials, and personalization.

The winery has an estate of 40 hectares at the foothills of the pre-Pyrenees with soils of sauló and granite. This is an interesting terrain for viticulture because, while it is not very fertile, it allows for excellent drainage.

Terra Remota operates under a philosophy of respect for the environment and nature. This is also evident in the farming practices they use to craft their excellent wines, through the organic cultivation of their vineyards.

Across the 12 well-differentiated plots of the estate, they cultivate red and white varieties of all kinds. These range from traditional varieties in the Empordà area such as Garnacha Tinta, Garnacha Blanca, and Tempranillo, to French varieties like Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Chardonnay, including an experimental plot with Chenin Blanc.
