The grapes used in the coupage of Cerro do Santo Reserva 2015 are grown on the Quinta do Pégo estate (Portugal), whose soil and environmental sustainability certification guarantees respect for the quality of the terroir. This Portuguese red wine is the result of a blend of wines from the 2015 harvest of different native grape varieties: touriga nacional, touriga franca, tinta roriz, Sousão, and tinta cão. Its careful vinification included alcoholic fermentation at controlled temperature and aging in French oak barrels to achieve refinement. To reach its best version, the wine will continue rounding off in the bottle for several months before being marketed.
Quinta do Pégo winery is located in the Cima Corgo subregion, near Vila do Pinhão, within the Douro region. The grapes from this winery, situated on the left bank of the Douro River, are cultivated in a magnificent setting declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and due to their quality, they are used for the production of great Vintage Ports and Late Bottled Vintage Ports, as well as wines under the D.O.C. Douro designation, such as this Cerro do Santo Reserva, an exceptional and well-structured red wine, especially suitable for pairing with red meats and all kinds of cheeses.
It displays an intense ruby red color.
On the nose, it offers great aromatic intensity, highlighting notes of red fruits and berries, well complemented by the nuances contributed by the wood.
On the palate, it is structured, harmonious, with elegant and balanced tannins. Fine and pleasant finish.
The first historical document that mentions Quinta do Pégo dates back to 1548, although it is known that the origin of the estate is earlier. In the 19th century (1825), the estate was purchased in a forced sale by Francisco Da Silva Torres, the second husband of Doña Antonia. The history of the winery concludes in 2003 when it was acquired by the AMKA group.
The Quinta do Pégo winery is located in the Douro region, in the Cima Corgo subregion, very close to Vila do Pinhão. This entire area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to the beauty of the Douro River valley, an idyllic place where manual harvesting takes place at the beginning of September on the steep terraces overlooking the freshwater.
The renowned Portuguese winery in the Douro Valley boasts an internationally prestigious winemaker, Manuel Henrique Da Silva, who, along with his team, crafts elegant wines of the D.O.P. Douro, Port Vintage wines, and Late Bottled Vintage wines from the native varieties touriga nacional, tinto cão, tinta barroca, tinta roriz, sousão, and touriga franca.
In addition to the estate and the winery, Quinta do Pégo features a hotel and a restaurant, perfect for exploring the Douro region, its wines, and its gastronomy.
