General Information

Ceramic Monastrell Criado en Tinaja 2022 is quite a rarity from the D.O. Valencia, produced by the prestigious Vicente Gandía winery. Founded in 1885, this is one of the most important companies in the Valencia region, with a presence in over 90 countries. Its philosophy combines tradition and innovation, focusing on quality and respect for the terroir. The winery is currently run by the fourth generation, with Javier Gandía at the helm.

Ceramic Monastrell Criado en Tinaja 2022 comes from old, strictly dry-farmed vines, a fact which guarantees an exceptional concentration of aromas and flavours. Its ageing process is divided into two phases: 11 months in French oak barrels, which provide structure and complexity, and further refinement in earthenware vats, which allows natural micro-oxygenation, preserving the fruit and giving the wine great freshness. The uniqueness of this red wine lies in its return to the origins of winemaking by combining ageing in French oak barrels with refinement in earthenware vats, an ancient method that lends the wine freshness and expressiveness.

The name Ceramic comes from the ancient Greek keramiké (‘made of clay’) and is a reference to its unique ageing process. The winery has revived this technique to enhance the essence of the Monastrell variety, one of Spain's most iconic native grapes.

When it comes to pairing, Ceramic Monastrell Criado en Tinaja 2022 is perfect with pork dishes, cured cheeses, pasta, pâtés and lamb.

Tasting notes

Deep red colour with a bright rim.

Prominent aromas of ripe plum and liquorice in the nose, with hints of coconut and vanilla.

Full-bodied and robust on the palate, with sweet tannins and elegant acidity, leaving lingering flavours of very ripe red fruit.

Founded in 1885 in Valencia, Vicente Gandía is one of the largest and most important wineries in the Valencian Community, and today is present in nine of the most renowned Spanish designations of origin. A company that, on the other hand, maintains its family origins and is currently led by the fourth generation, with Javier Gandía as General Manager. It has facilities equipped with the most advanced technology, while in the vineyard (850 hectares, both owned and controlled) it is committed to sustainable cultivation. It remains faithful to its founding values: contributing to the progress and well-being of society by focusing on quality and innovation, without forgetting tradition. Its commitment to the world of art is another of its defining characteristics.

Its wines, with a modern style, are made with international varieties as well as native ones, such as bobal, and are characterized by offering an excellent quality-price ratio. Furthermore, it is a winery with a clear international vocation, with its wines present in more than 90 countries. In 2014, Vicente Gandía was recognized as the best Spanish winery by the prestigious international competition AWC Vienna. Additionally, that same year, the World Association of Wine and Spirits Journalists and Writers included it as one of the 50 best wineries in the world in its annual list.
