The red wine Castillo de Monjardín Roble 2023 is made with the best tempranillo and garnacha grapes from the Las Cañas vineyard, located over 450 meters above sea level. For its production, after the harvest, the grapes were destemmed and cold macerated. The must fermented at a constant temperature of 27 ºC for about 10 days, and the resulting wine was aged for 4 months in French oak barrels. The result is a juicy, fresh, and fruity Navarro wine, perfect for daily consumption.

The Bodega Castillo de Monjardín was founded in 1988 by Víctor del Villar, its current owner. It is located in the central area of Navarra, at the foot of the castle of the same name, very close to the Pyrenees. Situated in a privileged area for vine cultivation, not only due to the factors of soil and climate but also because of the influence of the nearby history and culture of France. The French are great connoisseurs of winemaking with varieties such as chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon, and merlot, in addition to others like garnacha or pinot noir, something that is reflected in the wines of this winery. Bodega Castillo de Monjardín has an extension of 220 hectares of vineyards, situated at 700 meters altitude. All wines are made with grapes from their own vineyards, controlled fermentations, and aging in French and American oak.

Castillo de Monjardín Roble 2023 is part of the D.O. Navarra. It is an uncomplicated and unpretentious wine, fresh, fruity, and very pleasant, which you can pair with all kinds of appetizers and tapas, rice dishes like mushroom risotto, and lightly aged cheeses.

Tasting notes

Castillo de Monjardín Roble is a wine with a bright and clean ruby red color.

Medium intensity on the nose, it presents fruity aromas of red cherry, plums, and wild berries.

On the palate, it is balanced, with lasting intense freshness, very expressive, with aromas of licorice and red fruits.

The winery

El Castillo de Monjardín is located in the San Esteban Valley, in the heart of Tierra Estella (Navarra), nestled at the foot of the Pyrenean mountain range, not far from the French border. The proximity to France strongly influences the traditional production of these wines, using grape varieties such as chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon, and merlot. To this, we must add the production of outstanding garnachas and a pinot noir with a fresh and fruity personality.

The winery, founded in 1988, has a total of 220 hectares of family-owned vineyards, situated at an altitude of 600 meters, with vines aged between 15 and 70 years.

For Bodegas Castillo de Monjardín, the terroir plays a fundamental role, as the land imparts the personality, character, and quality of the wines. For the winery, “the only thing that always remains is the land, everything else is transitory.”

It is worth highlighting the microclimate in which these vineyards are located, influenced by the famous cierzo wind, so characteristic of these latitudes. This uniqueness, along with the extensive experience of Víctor del Villar and his team, is responsible for the production of unique wines, full of aromas, elegant flavors, and a firm structure. The wines are made with grapes from their own vineyards, with controlled fermentations and aging in French and American oak barrels.

The winery's goal is to achieve high-quality wines that can adequately complement Mediterranean cuisine and maintain its status as a benchmark in the national winemaking scene.
