General Information

The new winery of Bodegas Familiares Matarromera in the D.O. Ribeiro is called Casar de Vide and is located in Castrelo de Miño (Ourense). Here, they produce Casar de Vide 2023, a blend dominated by the treixadura grape (90%) complemented by other native varieties: albariño, godello, and torrontés. The vineyards supplying the grapes - 5 hectares - were planted between 1990 and 2000 and grow on loamy-siliceous soil in the areas of Castrelo de Miño and Cenlle (Ourense).

The vineyards were selected for their proximity to both banks of the Miño River, with different orientations allowing the treixadura grape to express diverse nuances: freshness in the shadier orientations and a more mature profile in sunnier areas. After a meticulous blending process, fermentation was carried out over 10-14 days in stainless steel tanks (16ºC) followed by aging on fine lees.

Ribeiro, a designation of origin situated between Rías Baixas and Valdeorras, has recently been regaining the historical splendor that for centuries made it the most renowned production area in Galicia and a symbol of Spanish white wines. The revival of traditional endemic varieties, with the treixadura grape as the spearhead, supported by other local grapes like torrontés, has positioned ribeiros as some of the most sought-after white wines in Spain, drawing the attention of major wine groups such as Bodegas Familiares Matarromera.

Casar de Vide is located in Castrelo de Miño (Ourense), just a few meters from the river and in the heart of the D.O. Ribeiro, in a stunning landscape dotted with vineyards on gentle slopes. The winery covers an area of 2,200 square meters and was built in 1988 with granite stone next to the historic house founded in 1957. A brand that has successfully combined technology, modernity, and classicism.

The white wine Casar de Vide 2023 (D.O. Ribeiro) is perfect to pair with baked redfish or salt-crusted sea bass.

Tasting notes

This wine, in the visual phase, presents a vivid pale straw yellow color with greenish and steely reflections, clean and very bright.

On the nose, it is frank, intense, and very direct, with notes of freshly cut apple, green banana peel, green apricot, and soft touches of white flower and carnation, with certain tropical hints of fresh pineapple. Subtle citrus background of grapefruit.

In the gustatory phase, it has excellent length and balance, with fresh Atlantic reminiscences, a lively acidity, and the rich aromatic sensations on the palate, where clear notes of fresh apple and peach are perceived, with a long, lively, and balanced finish.
