Beronia Gran Reserva 2016 is one of the great wines conceived by Bodegas Beronia, one of the most attractive Spanish wine producers, thanks to a philosophy that promotes sustainable agriculture at all levels, respect for the environment, and the ability to adapt to new market trends. All this without ever forgetting the traditional essence of Rioja, which has allowed them to position their labels as some of the most sought-after in the market.
Adhering to the D.O.Ca. Rioja, Beronia Gran Reserva stands as a truly complex and special wine. Bodegas Beronia has been producing it since its foundation in 1973 by a group of hedonists who formed a gastronomic society, and it is currently part of the important wine group González Byass.
A Gran Reserva made with clusters of Tempranillo, Graciano, and Mazuelo from old vineyards, some of them centuries old, from very specific terroirs located in the Rioja Alta, mainly in the Valpierre valley and the mountain just above the winery, where the higher altitude allows for slower ripening. Beronia Gran Reserva 2016 pairs well with red meats, roast beef, cured cheeses, and even chocolate desserts.
Beronia Gran Reserva offers an intense black plum color with a very high layer. On the nose, it provides a great amount of sensations, from ripe fruit compote to dried plums. Subtle notes of chocolate and pipe tobacco also emerge, along with balsamic sensations, which give it freshness. On the palate, fresh fruit plays a major role. It offers a pleasant tannin, as well as a balanced structure, making it an elegant and silky wine.
Founded in 1973 by a group of hedonists who formed a gastronomic society, Bodegas Beronia has belonged to the González Byass Group since 1982. A winery with a philosophy based on combining the best of tradition and modernity. Surrounding the facilities, Beronia has its main asset: 25 hectares of its own vineyard, complemented by an additional 870 hectares of controlled vineyards that extend within a 10 km radius, with an average age of 30 years. A magnificent and abundant viticultural heritage that allows it to have quality raw materials every vintage. Significant investment in R&D, respect for the environment, and the continuous renewal of the barrel park are other key characteristics.
Beronia produces different ranges: the Classic Range, consisting of a white, a rosé, and the red wines Crianza, Reserva, and Gran Reserva; the Varietal Range, which includes the only Reserva from Rioja made with mazuelo; the Premium Range, featuring Beronia Selección 198 Barricas, Beronia III a.C., Beronia Viñas Viejas, Crianza Edición Limitada, and the rosé Alegra; and an organic wine. Additionally, Beronia has extended its reach to the D.O. Rueda, where they produce a verdejo white wine and have 65 hectares of their own vineyards.
