La Atalaya del Camino 2024 is a red wine from the D.O. Almansa that focuses on two native varieties: the Garnacha Tintorera and the Monastrell. Born in Bodegas Atalaya, this wine exclusive for Vinoselección bets on ageing in French oak which gives it depth and a very marked personality, without losing freshness in the overall profile.
The grapes are vinified separately in stainless steel tanks with controlled temperature, and afterwards the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and maturation in French and American oak, depending on the vintage. That work, patient and well measured, leaves a sensation of great complexity and a serious wine, the kind that makes itself noticed from the first moment.
Bodegas Atalaya is part of the Viñas Familia Gil group, a house with a long track record and a way of understanding wine closely linked to native varieties. In the small and promising D.O. Almansa, its vineyards, located at good altitude, give rise to structured red wines that reflect very well the strength of their origin and the care with which they are produced.

Winemaking
Garnacha Tintorera and Monastrell are fermented separately in stainless steel vessels with controlled temperature, a decision aimed at preserving the fruit and refining extraction. Then the wine completes malolactic fermentation and undergoes French and American oak, depending on the characteristics of the harvest, before continuing its journey in stainless steel.
Aging

Description
La Atalaya del Camino 2024 comes from vineyards situated in Paraje Atalaya, 3 km north of Almansa, in the D.O. Almansa, where the vines grow between 700 and 1,000 metres above sea level on sandy soils with a calcareous base and low fertility.
Climate
The continental climate, with scarce rainfall, favours low yields and a grape of great concentration, contributing intensity of colour and a remarkable aromatic expression.
Viticulture
La Atalaya del Camino 2024 arises from high-altitude vineyards that seek concentration and varietal expression.
The grapes of Garnacha Tintorera and Monastrell come from plots located between 700 and 1,000 metres, on sandy soils with a calcareous base, in a semi-arid continental climate. These conditions favour low yields and more concentrated fruit, a key aspect of the wine's profile.
View
Intense and very bright red colour, with violet undertones that lend brightness and depth to the overall appearance.
Nose
Shows a powerful and complex aroma profile, with notes of red fruit and spices that add depth and definition. Overall, it offers an original and interesting nose, with a fresh and highly expressive character.
Mouth
In the tasting phase it shows great structure and an enveloping texture, with a strong fruit presence and the subtle contribution of its ageing in oak. The acidity sustains the whole with freshness, while the tannins provide quality and firmness without losing softness. The finish is long and very pleasant, with a persistence that reinforces its serious and complex character.
Bodegas Atalaya is part of Juan Gil Bodegas Familiares. Miguel Gil is the most prominent figure of this thriving group, managed by the fourth generation of a lineage of passionate winemakers and viticulturists. Since his great-grandfather Juan Gil Jiménez founded the family winery (Bodega Juan Gil) in the center of Jumilla, 100 years have passed. In 2001, Miguel Gil took charge of the relaunch and modernization of the family winery Juan Gil and founded the winery El Nido.
After the creation of the winery El Nido, the group Viñas Familia Gil (formerly known as Juan Gil Bodegas Familiares) began to grow significantly, expanding into other designations of origin and always focusing on native grape varieties. In 2007, the Gil family arrived at the small D.O. Almansa (Albacete) and founded Bodegas Atalaya.
Bodegas Atalaya is located in Paraje Atalaya, 3 km north of the town of Almansa. Its vineyards grow at an altitude of 700 m, on low-fertility calcareous soils and in a continental climate with scarce rainfall, ideal conditions for achieving low yields and high-quality grapes with great concentration of color and aromas in the wines.
