General Information

Heir to a beautiful winemaking legacy and with the same passion as his predecessors, Juan Jesús Valdelana, current manager and winemaker of Bodegas Valdelana, has endowed this winery with a palatial air and a new dimension in winemaking and commercial aspects, without neglecting a spectacular architectural ensemble that houses a rural accommodation. Beneath it lie two underground museums, one dedicated to the history of civilizations and the other to wine, both located in impressive cellars dating back to the 15th century.

Now, at Vinoselección, we offer you the opportunity to access one of the wines that best portrays the history of Rioja at an exceptional price. Agnvs de Autor Reserva 2017 is a red wine with an unmistakable unique style, born from meticulously cared-for vineyards and standing as the ‘top’ wine of Bodegas Valdelana.

After a field selection of the family's oldest vines, the harvest of the tempranillo and graciano grape clusters takes place in boxes to create this red wine we present to you. Subsequently, the grapes are taken to the production facility, where they undergo a cold pre-maceration prior to the traditional winemaking process in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Once this phase is completed, the wine is transferred to French and Hungarian oak barrels, where it remains for 24 months before bottling.

Tasting notes

In appearance, it presents a beautiful ripe cherry red color with a ruby rim, very well covered in layer.

On the nose, it is intense and incredibly elegant, with notes of black fruits in jam (blackberry and plum), along with sweet spices (cinnamon and vanilla) that are complemented by pleasant balsamic touches (eucalyptus); all in perfect harmony over a background of cocoa.

Very flavorful, broad, and well-structured on the palate, with well-balanced acidity and noble, well-integrated tannins. In its long and persistent finish, the sweet spice notes announced on the nose return, also leaving pleasant memories of fruit in liqueur.

Creators' opinion

The winery

Bodegas Valdelana
The family of passionate winegrowers Valdelana represents like few others the love for a territory: Elciego (Rioja Alavesa), where the passing of years has allowed them to gather a highly valuable viticultural heritage that provides excellent raw material. 14 generations behind a winery whose origin dates back to the 16th century, a legacy of work and passion they aim to reflect in their “Familia” range. Juan Jesús Valdelana (13th generation) is the current manager and technical director of the winery.

The beautiful facilities of Bodegas Valdelana, with a palatial air and renovated in 2007, are located in the town of Elciego. The winery owns 128 ha of its own vineyards and oversees another 50 ha; with these grapes, it produces around 1 million bottles annually, of which 60% are destined for the international market. These are wines that Juan Jesús Valdelana defines as “elegant and sumptuous,” in a style we could describe as classic yet modernized. Bodegas Valdelana is also characterized by its strong commitment to art; in fact, it has been awarded for the second time as the best Winery in Art and Culture. It features two underground museums located in 15th-century cellars: one dedicated to the history of civilizations and another to wine; and rural accommodation located in the building of the Winery Museum.
