822 2023 is the purest interpretation of the high-altitude vineyard in Ribera del Duero. Originating from the prestigious area known as the 'golden mile,' this wine reflects the complexity of its soils and the unique microclimate that enhances the concentration and quality of the fruit. With a score of 90 points in the Guía Peñín, it stands out as an essential reference for lovers of red wines with personality.
Behind this creation is Pagos de Anguix, a winery committed to excellence and sustainability. Its vineyards, located at 822 meters above sea level, benefit from an extreme continental climate and sandy soils with gravel presence, conditions that limit yields and enhance the wine's aromatic intensity and structure. The project is led by enologist José Manuel Pérez Ovejas, renowned for his career at another highly regarded winery in Ribera del Duero: Viña Pedrosa.
The process begins with manual harvesting and a rigorous selection of tempranillo grapes. Following a cold fermentation to preserve aromas and avoid bitter tannins, the wine undergoes a 15-day maceration with daily pump-overs. Only the free-run wine is transferred to oak barrels (70% French and 30% American), where it ages for at least nine months, achieving a perfect harmony between fruit and wood.
At the table, it will be the perfect companion for dishes such as chickpea stew or broken eggs with ham.
In the glass, 822 2023 displays a deep ruby color with violet hues.
On the nose, it reveals aromas of fresh red fruits like cherries and blueberries, accompanied by balsamic notes, minty hints, and subtle touches of vanilla and toasted nuances.
On the palate, it is smooth, balanced, and silky, with fine tannins and a vibrant acidity that reflects the character of the high-altitude vineyard.
In 2018, the Juvé & Camps group (which includes the cavas of the same name and the distributor Primeras Marcas) purchased the Torres de Anguix winery, founded in 2000, along with its vineyards. In this way, the Juvé family fulfilled their dream of settling in the privileged lands of Ribera del Duero. Their first wines were released to the market with the 2017 vintage, and in this new phase, the winery changed its name to Pagos de Anguix.
The winery is located in Anguix (Burgos), in the northern part of the Burgos Ribera del Duero. Shortly after its inception, it acquired an additional 45 hectares of vineyards, this time organic. Currently, it owns 90 hectares of vineyards distributed across the villages of Anguix and Olmedillo de Roa; half of which are already certified as “organic cultivation,” with the other half in the process of conversion.
The vineyards, all of the tinto fino (tempranillo) variety, are situated at an average altitude of 850 m, and the vines are between 20 and 40 years old. With this raw material, the winery produces carefully crafted aged red wines and an organic rosé.
