822 2022 is a Tempranillo made from grapes cultivated on an estate located at a high altitude in the famous ‘golden diamond’ of Ribera del Duero – as Jancis Robinson MW called it – in the province of Burgos. On this estate the vines grow in sandy soil with gravel and are exposed to the extreme temperatures of a continental climate. Under these conditions they produce small berries that result in wines with highly concentrated flavours and great structure.
The grapes were harvested by hand and carefully sorted. They underwent cold fermentation in stainless steel tanks to gradually extract the colour and fruity aromas. They were macerated for 15 days in the tanks, with daily pumping over to facilitate extraction. Following malolactic fermentation, only the free-run juice was transferred to oak barrels (70% French and 30% American) to mature for a minimum period of 9 months.
In 2018 the Juvé & Camps group (which includes the Cavas with the same name and the Primeras Marcas distribution company) bought Torres de Anguix, a winery that had been founded in 2000 in Anguix (Burgos). That is how the Juvé family fulfilled their dream of establishing themselves in Ribera del Duero. Their journey began with the 2017 vintage, and the name of the winery was changed to Pagos de Anguix.
The Juvés acquired the vineyards belonging to the previous owners and a further 45 hectares of organic vines. Since the outset they’ve striven to cultivate their vineyards using organic methods, dividing their 87 hectares of vines into plots. The vines are very close to the winery building, located between the villages of Anguix and Olmedillo de Roa, within a four-metre radius.
Tinto Fino or Tempranillo is the main grape variety and the vines grow at an average altitude of 850 metres, a factor that gives the wines a fresher and more complex character. One of the leading experts in Ribera de Duero vineyards, winemaker José Manuel Pérez Ovejas, designs the firm’s wines.
Pagos de Anguix 822 m 2022 (D.O. Ribera del Duero) is perfect with lamb stew.
Bright red with violet hues. Dominant aromas of blackcurrants and blackberries, with a very elegant freshness. Balanced attack with smooth tannins and fruity flavours. Long, crisp finish with elegant notes from ageing in oak. This is a wine packed with the character of Ribera del Duero that won’t leave consumers indifferent.
In 2018, the Juvé & Camps group (which includes the cavas of the same name and the distributor Primeras Marcas) purchased the Torres de Anguix winery, founded in 2000, along with its vineyards. In this way, the Juvé family fulfilled their dream of settling in the privileged lands of Ribera del Duero. Their first wines were released to the market with the 2017 vintage, and in this new phase, the winery changed its name to Pagos de Anguix.
The winery is located in Anguix (Burgos), in the northern part of the Burgos Ribera del Duero. Shortly after its inception, it acquired an additional 45 hectares of vineyards, this time organic. Currently, it owns 90 hectares of vineyards distributed across the villages of Anguix and Olmedillo de Roa; half of which are already certified as “organic cultivation,” with the other half in the process of conversion.
The vineyards, all of the tinto fino (tempranillo) variety, are situated at an average altitude of 850 m, and the vines are between 20 and 40 years old. With this raw material, the winery produces carefully crafted aged red wines and an organic rosé.
