General Information

Zuazo Gastón Reserva 2019 (an Excellent year) was designed from a selection of plots planted with old Tempranillo vines using the traditional method, with destemmed grapes. It was aged for 20 months in 225-litre French oak barrels followed by at least 18 months in the bottle, developing a complex bouquet by the time it was released.

Bodegas y Viñedos Zuazo Gastón is a small winery run by the Zuazo family with more than a century and a half winegrowing experience. The firm is located in Oyón, one of the areas that are key to understanding the worldwide prestige enjoyed by the wines from Rioja Alavesa.

Zuazo Gastón Reserva 2019 (D.O.Ca. Rioja) is ideal with meat dishes such as roast pork with vegetables of grilled sirloin steak.

Creators' opinion

Brilliant ruby-red with brick-red hues. Elegant notes from oak with just the right amount of vanilla from barrel and bottle ageing combined with still present varietal notes, with a predominance of spicy and balsamic aromas. Balanced and complex bouquet that makes for a silky-smooth, elegant mouthfeel, fleshy body with good length and intensity and a distinctive finish.

The winery

Bodegas y Viñedos Zuazo Gastón

Zuazo Gastón are two surnames closely linked to the viticulture of Oyón, one of the key locations to understand the prestige enjoyed by the wines of Rioja Alavesa worldwide. Although their winemaking origins date back to 1850, it was not until the mid-20th century that Mariano Zuazo, together with Victoriano Gastón and several local winegrowers, founded a cooperative that would eventually become the seed for the creation of Bodegas y Viñedos Zuazo Gastón in 2001. Today, the winery has 52 hectares of its own vineyards (plus another 48 hectares leased), a production capacity of nearly one and a half million liters, and a barrel park with 2,000 units.
