In the historic winemaking area of Toro there are firms that are revamping the traditional wines to make them fresher and more drinkable. Viñedos de Yaso is one of them, as evidenced by its red Yaso 2021, a young, lightly aged wine made from grapes grown in the winery’s own vineyards on the Finca Yaso estate in Morales de Toro.

Yaso 2021 comes from Finca Yaso: 10 hectares of vines in the municipality of Morales de Toro (Zamora). It’s made entirely from Tinta de Toro grapes, the main variety in this Denominación, from vines more than 20 years old that grow in sandy, clayey and pebbly soils with different orientations. Aged for 4 months in French oak, it’s an excellent example of the new generation of Toro wines with more of an emphasis on subtle elegance than on powerful tannins.
Viñedos de Yaso is part of Compañía de Viñedos Iberian, one of the most powerful winegrowing groups in Spain. Here, in the D.O. Toro, they own Finca Yaso, very close to Morales de Toro, which supplied the grapes that went into making the wine we’re offering you. They also possess old vineyards in El Pego and Valdefinjas, from which the grapes for their Matteria range come. Both brands are produced in a local collaborating winery that’s rented partially, as their annual production is no more than 30,000 bottles.
Besides Viñedos de Yaso, Compañía de Viñedos Iberian is made up of Viñas del Jaro (D.O. Ribera del Duero) and Cal Grau (D.O.Ca. Priorat) – different regions where the company applies the same philosophy: to create wines that reflect the essence of each area and are the fullest expression of freshness and youth.
Yaso 2021 (D.O. Toro) is ideal with bean stews as well as mature cheeses.
