Torre de Oña

Torre de Oña

Torre de Oña was the great dream of Leandro Vázquez, a businessman of Cuban origin and a great wine enthusiast who, in 1985, acquired 15 hectares of vineyards in Páganos (Álava), a locality belonging to the municipality of Laguardia. Three years later, he built the winery, and in 1995, he decided to sell the firm – which by then already owned 45 hectares of vineyards – to the La Rioja Alta, S.A. Group, which has maintained the winemaking philosophy of its founder.

Since La Rioja Alta, S.A. acquired Torre de Oña, the winery has continued growing in every sense. They currently have 65 hectares of vineyards, and the facilities have been expanded. They also restored the 17th-century Ermita de Santiago, located within the estate. In terms of winemaking, the recruitment of Julio Sáenz further increased the quality of the wines and led to the creation of a new and striking reference: Finca San Martín.

Torre de Oña rests at the center of a silent sea of vineyards, in the style of a French château. Entering the facilities is a pleasure, passing through the wrought-iron gate and admiring the neoclassical façade of its mansion and, beside it, the ashlar winery.
