It is one of the numerous Vinos de Pago denominations that exist in Spain, a pioneer in Castilla-La Mancha. The distinction of Vinos de Pago recognizes that each estate complies with the requirements outlined in the decree of the autonomous community that has endorsed it. The wineries and their vineyards acquire the category of DO of Recognized Quality Wines Produced in a Specific Estate. The requirements set by the public administration to grant this designation are based on the control of the viticultural and oenological practices of the estate, the recognition of the brand, and its prominence in both national and international markets. Founded in 1974, it was a pioneer in introducing Cabernet Sauvignon in Spain, as well as Chardonnay, thanks to the late Carlos Falcó (Marqués de Griñón). It also established trellis techniques for warm climates, designed by Richard Smart.
