Pago Dehesa del Carrizal

Pago Dehesa del Carrizal is one of the Vinos de Pago denominations that exist in Spain. The Vinos de Pago distinction recognizes that each estate meets the requirements set out in the decree of the autonomous community that has endorsed it. The wineries involved and their crops acquire the category of D.O. of Recognized Quality Wines Produced in a Specific Viticultural Estate.

The requirements established by the public administration to grant this designation focus on the control of the estate's viticultural and oenological practices, the recognition of the brand, and its prominence in both national and international markets. It was founded in 1987 by Marcial Gómez-Sequeira, but it wasn’t until February 1, 2006, that it achieved approval for the Denominación de Origen Protegida Vino de Pago Dehesa del Carrizal.

Climate
Mild continental.
Soil
The vines rest on a "raña," the local name for the slopes and plains at the foot of the mountains that have been shaped by water and rain erosion, leading to an accumulation of clays and quartzite pebbles – a clay-loam soil. These erosions date back to the Cambrian period and, thanks to the microclimate and humidity, they offer an interesting level of acidity.
