From the beginning, the entire family participated in the project. The father of Manuel Esteban Martín was the ideologist and pioneer of the winery. The conception of the winery's name was carried out by his older sister, María Ángeles.
It all began in the early eighties, when the industrialist from Valladolid, Manuel Esteban Casado, decided to connect with the wine world and, together with his wife, Mª Ángeles Martín de la Rosa, acquired the Monte Alto estate, which until then had been dedicated to agricultural and livestock activities. In 1987, Manuel carried out the first vineyard plantation on the Monte Alto estate: 20 hectares; and, after rehabilitating the existing building to turn it into a modern winery, the first Montebaco wines came to light in 1994.
