Professional career
Benjamín Romeo is one of the key figures of the Rioja wine revolution in the 1990s. He worked as an enólogo at Artadi until 1999, collaborating with Juan Carlos López de Lacalle on red wines that became milestones. Afterwards, he fully dedicated himself to his personal project: Bodegas Contador, which he had started in 1995.
At the helm of Bodegas Contador, Benjamín achieved a meteoric rise to success. A perfect connoisseur of the vineyards around San Vicente de la Sonsierra, he managed to produce, from small plots, a red wine that reached the international pinnacle: Contador, rated in two consecutive vintages -2004 and 2005- with 100 Parker points.
