The vineyards of the A.O.C. Montagny are located on the hills between 200 and 400 meters in altitude in the villages of Montagny-lès-Buxy, Buxy, Saint-Vallerin, and Jully-lès-Buxy, in the southern part of Burgundy.
Officially recognized in 1936, this appellation covers a total planted area of 300 hectares, with chardonnay being the only authorized variety. It is used to produce balanced, powerful, and full-bodied wines.
The winemaking tradition of Montagny dates back to the Middle Ages, when monks from local abbeys such as Cluny, Tournus, or La Ferte began cultivating vines and producing wine. Currently, two-thirds of the Montagny vineyard are classified as Premier Cru.
