General information
A white to keep in stock in your wine cupboard is a good Verdejo from Rueda, the white wine Denominación with the greatest appeal. Especially if it’s made by Protos, a name that’s synonymous with quality – both its Ribera del Duero reds and its Rueda whites. It’s no coincidence that its Verdejo is among the bestsellers every year. The latest vintage, Protos Verdejo 2024, is a must-have because it’s suitable for every occasion.
Bodegas La Val, which belongs to the CVNE group, has released the second vintage of this unique Albariño that got off to a strong start when the 2023 vintage was awarded 92 Parker points. Orballo 2024, 100% Albariño, was grown on the winery’s estate located nearest the sea: Vilachan, in the O Rosal subzone (D.O. Rías Baixas). A white that’s undergone a complex procedure of ageing on the lees in three types of vessels: stainless steel, concrete and earthenware. The result is an Albariño that’s full of character and displays the salinity and minerality characteristic of its place of origin, a highly expressive nose and very fresh palate.
The white wines made in Rioja have become highly sought after in recent years; they’re a great success at tastings and international competitions and have regained the importance they used to enjoy. Muga Blanco 2023 comes from one of the most famous Rioja wineries that’s located in the famous station district of Haro and has been around for nearly a century. It’s been fermented in vats and barrels and aged on the lees for 4 months. Great balance of acidity and fullness, hints of citrus and stone fruits and flowers, and a very long finish.
