Protos Verdejo 2024
A 'must-have' in your personal wine cellar
No wine cellar is complete without a good Verdejo from Rueda, the most popular Denominación de Origen for white wines. Especially the one made by Protos, a winery that’s a guarantee of quality, both for its reds in Ribera del Duero and its whites in Rueda. There’s a good reason why its Verdejo is one of the best-selling wines, year after year. The new vintage, Protos Verdejo 2024, is a must-have because it’s a great all-rounder.
General information
Protos Verdejo 2024 is made entirely from Verdejo grapes, mostly from vines over 15 years old that grow in gravelly and sandy soils typical of the area. The plants come from selections from La Seca, Nieva and Martín Sancho, as well as from clones chosen for their proven quality.
The grapes were harvested at night to preserve the freshness of the berries. Pellicular maceration was carried out for 4 hours at 10 ºC. They were pressed in an inert atmosphere with static racking at 10 ºC. Controlled fermentation at 14ºC. The resulting wine was aged for 3 months on its lees to achieve more aromatic nuances, boost its structure on the palate and ensure a long life.
Bodegas Protos has the merit of combining prestige and popularity. Founded back in 1927 in Peñafiel, in Ribera del Duero, it’s branched out into the nearby D.O. Rueda, where it’s chosen to establish itself in the region of La Seca (Valladolid), the most highly valued by experts for the quality of its Verdejo vineyards. With sixteen vintages to date, its Rueda whites are a leading name for consumers. Once again, Protos is at the cutting edge.
Protos Verdejo 2024 (D.O. Rueda) is ideal with tuna in tomato sauce.

Creators’ opinion
"
Straw-yellow colour with greenish hues indicating youth. Very clean and bright.
Aroma of high intensity, with herby, white fruit (apple) and balsamic notes typical of the variety, together with citrus and a touch of stone fruit (apricot).
Powerful attack on account of the body and structure that come from ageing on the lees. This wine is dry, without sugar, but fresh due to its balanced natural acidity. Bitterness typical of Verdejo in the lingering finish in which the balsamic and white fruit notes carry through.
