Félix Azpilicueta Gran Reserva 2017 displays fine oak and ripe fruit in a harmony that seduces from the first sip. This Rioja Gran Reserva, born in the historic Bodegas Azpilicueta, boasts an intense elegance and a character that only time can shape.

Let yourself be won over by its personality and discover a wine that turns every glass into a memorable moment.

Old wood, time and a patient ageing are evident from the first moment in Félix Azpilicueta Gran Reserva 2017. It is a wine of Gran Reserva in the D.O.Ca. Rioja, a category much sought after in the region, and conveys that sense of quiet elegance that only wines made to last and leave a mark give.

Behind is Bodegas Azpilicueta, founded in 1881 by Félix Azpilicueta under the name Romeral. Today it forms part of the Pernod Ricard group and has 800 hectares of vineyards in Rioja, most of them in the surroundings of Fuenmayor. That landscape, with its varying altitudes, orientations and slopes, adds nuance and character to every harvest.

The winery opened in 2001 with modern and sustainable facilities, designed by Ignacio Quemada, where tradition and cutting-edge sit comfortably together. At the head of the range is Elena Adell, a highly regarded oenologist, who continues to refine the house's style with that quintessential Rioja blend of precision, calm and personality.

Description

Félix Azpilicueta Gran Reserva 2017 stems from the work with 800 hectares of vineyard in the D.O.Ca. Rioja, with a main part of the vineyard in the area around Fuenmayor. There, the irregular topography allows us to work plots located at different altitudes, orientations and slopes, a mosaic of conditions that enriches the whole and supports more precise viticulture.

Viticulture

Are you looking for a wine that expresses balance and ageing potential from the vineyard itself? Félix Azpilicueta Gran Reserva 2017 comes from a winery with 800 hectares of vines in the D.O.Ca. Rioja, worked mainly in the Fuenmayor area, where the irregular topography allows selecting plots at different altitudes, orientations and slopes. This viticultural base favours a viticulture tailored to the area and aimed at obtaining grapes with character, intended for wines with long ageing. In addition, the winery conducts its activity in modern and sustainable facilities, a reflection of a working philosophy respectful of the surroundings.

The winery

Bodegas Azpilicueta

Integrated into the group of wineries of the giant Pernod Ricard, a leader in the production, commercialization, and export of quality wines from Spain to more than 70 countries, Bodegas Azpilicueta was founded in 1881 by Félix Azpilicueta under the original name of Romeral. Since the 1990s, the new technical department of the group has been firmly committed to recovering the essence of aged Rioja wines, choosing Azpilicueta to carry out this wine dissemination endeavor.

In 2001, Azpilicueta inaugurated new facilities: a modern and sustainable building where architecture and cutting-edge winemaking perfectly complement each other. These facilities (where the wines of the Campo Viejo winery, owned by the same group, are also produced) were designed by the renowned Rioja architect Ignacio Quemada.

Bodegas Azpilicueta has 800 hectares of vineyards to work within the D.O.Ca. Rioja. Most of the vineyards supplying the company are located around Fuenmayor, a municipality with an irregular topography that allows work with plots at different altitudes, orientations, and slopes. The renowned winemaker Elena Adell leads the Azpilicueta wine range.
