Each of our trips to Rioja is a quest: we explore vineyards and wineries keep their wines hidden like closely guarded secrets. Our mission is to find them and share them with all our customers. At Vinoselección, we love wines that have a heart and soul, wines that tell a story and reflect the spirit of a region. That's how, during one of our visits to Cenicero, we came across Consejo de la Alta, a small winery that's passionate about its work in two subzones: Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa. Their philosophy and their wines won us over from day one and we proposed working with them. It's not easy to find wineries with such carefully produced wines made in limited quantities. So since that first meeting, we've been patiently monitoring their progress, waiting for the right moment to share their essence with you. The time has now come with Volumen 1 2021.
Volumen 1 2021 is much more than a wine; it's the first ‘volume’ of a history that’s close to our hearts. It represents the beginning of a collection in which each vintage will tell its own story, reflecting the diversity and richness of its origin. The terroir is the shared asset of Rioja wines, and the soils their identity. Native to the Rioja Alta subzone, Volumen 1 2021 embodies the essence of an exceptional area characterised by its Atlantic-influenced climate and clay-limestone soils that lend its wines structure and freshness. A Tempranillo that reflects its origins with a personality of its own, elegant and balanced, fresh and deeply layered, which you’ll only find at Vinoselección, as it’s exclusive and produced in limited quantities.
Volume 1 2021 pairs perfectly with fine cuts of Ibérico pork, such as roast shoulder or braised cheeks.
Stay tuned, because this Volumen 1 is just the beginning of a collection that will evolve over time and its second instalment – another red, this time from Rioja Alavesa – will come out soon, but that's another story. Some stories are not just for telling, they’re for drinking too.
Attractive ripe cherry-ed colour with a garnet-hued rim. Perfect balance on the nose between fruity notes of cherries, blackberries and redcurrants and notes from barrel ageing, with hints of vanilla and subtle toasted and cedar notes.
Flavourful and medium-bodied on the attack, with good balance; ripe tannins give it a pleasant, smooth mouthfeel. Flavours dominated by ripe fruit and a hint of spice.
Nice, long finish marked by toasty and slightly smoky notes.
