The living history of Somontano
By popular request, we’ve brought back this fabulous Reserva from the Somontano region that you won’t find anywhere else and is only made in exceptional years. It comes from the leading winery in this Denominación, Viñas del Vero, and has been designed jointly with Vinoselección’s technical experts. We’ve offered you this red four times and it’s always a hit. Now comes the turn of Viñas del Vero Reserva Cuvée 2022, a blend of two international varieties that have earned the winery its fame: Cabernet Sauvignon (89%) and Merlot (11%).

The new vintage of this Reserva created jointly with Viñas del Vero, Viñas del Vero Reserva Cuvée 2022, combines two French varieties, Cabernet Sauvignon (89%) and Merlot (11%), which have adapted perfectly to the Somontano region. In fact, Viñas del Vero was a pioneer in cultivating Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in the Somontano region back in the 1980s. It now boasts excellent vineyards planted with these varieties, which go into making its best wines – which are, in turn, the highest quality examples in the D.O.
Viñas del Vero Reserva Cuvée made its debut at Vinoselección with the 2006 vintage, and then returned with the 2010, 2018 and 2021 vintages. The 2022 version led us to repeat our collaboration with the winery. The result is a delicious exclusive blend aged for 14 months in new barrels, 80% made of French oak.
Viñas del Vero (1986) was one of the three great wineries that revolutionised Somontano in the 1990s, together with Enate and Pirineos. It currently belongs to the González Byass group and continues to be the leading firm in the D.O. Somontano in terms of both production volume and vineyards. It has one of the most extensive vineyards in the country, with more than 1,000 hectares of vines. It produces more than six million bottles and its wines are exported to some fifty countries.
The red wine Viñas del Vero Reserva Cuvée 2022 (D.O. Somontano) is marvellous with pork cheeks in red wine and chocolate desserts.
