Viña Real Cuvée Especial Reserva 2021 is a red wine crafted to measure, in close collaboration with the winery's oenological management and the technical team of Vinoselección. A modern-style Rioja that follows the success of the 2016, 2018, 2019, and 2020 vintages.
It is sourced from magnificent vineyards in the area of Elciego and Laguardia (Rioja Alavesa) and perfectly blends the tempranillo grape with a touch of garnacha and mazuelo. A red wine where the finest grapes from Rioja Alavesa leave their mark, offering a fruity profile that merges with the notes provided by the barrels.
Few wine brands in the world can boast over a hundred years of history. Viña Real belongs to this exclusive centenary club and is one of the few labels that have endured through the years, representing the quality concept of Rioja wine and, more specifically, that of Rioja Alavesa.
Based in Laguardia, in the heart of Rioja Alavesa, the Viña Real winery perfectly combines tradition and modernity in its spectacular facilities made of concrete, wood, and stainless steel. A winery designed by renowned French architect Philippe Mazières, who was chosen by the leaders of CVNE (Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España) to embody the aesthetic of this century-old winemaking house.
The building is visually striking, with the enormous vat that dominates its structure, serving as the place for winemaking. Alongside it, two tunnels have been carved into the rock of Cerro de la Mesa, where the winery is located, designated for the aging of the wines (one for barrels and the other for bottles), along with two adjacent buildings (one for offices, a tasting room, and the bottling line; and another reserved for storage and additional offices).
CVNE applies its unique style at Viña Real, seeking wines with a more subtle character and evoking a more “Burgundian” profile.

Behind Viña Real stands one of the most solid names in the Rioja wine scene with significant international projection: CVNE (Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España). The renowned French architect on the global stage, Philippe Mazières, was the person chosen by its leaders to capture the aesthetics of this century-old winemaking house in the new Viña Real winery, established in Laguardia (Rioja Alavesa). Its philosophy was to seek a unique style that respected the winery's hallmarks, with a subtler character, evoking a more “Burgundian” profile in this new initiative.
CVNE (Haro, Rioja Alta) first launched the Viña Real brand on the market in 1920; however, at the end of the 20th century, it conceived the idea of creating a dedicated winery for this range and chose the subzone of Rioja Alavesa for this new project. Thus, the history of the Viña Real winery is relatively short: its facilities were inaugurated in 2004.
