Viña Pomal Vinos Singulares Tempranillo Blanco Reserva 2018 is a true gem among the white wines of Rioja. It is made from the tempranillo blanco grape variety, a natural mutation of tempranillo discovered in 1988, and is part of the Vinos Singulares collection from Bodegas Bilbaínas. A white wine with the soul of a red, of extremely limited production, distinguished by its vibrant freshness and aromatic complexity.

The grapes for this wine come from the Cores vineyard, located in the Viña Pomal estate, near the Barrio de la Estación in Haro. The vines are 25 years old and are planted in sandy-loam soils at an altitude of between 455 and 460 meters. The vineyard, dry-farmed and with a north-south orientation, is cultivated under sustainable practices, with a controlled yield of 5,500 kg/ha, ensuring grapes of the highest quality and varietal expression.

The harvest is carried out manually in 15 kg boxes during the early hours of the morning to preserve freshness. After an 8-hour skin maceration, the must ferments in barrels at a low temperature (15 ºC). During the first 4 months, batonnage is performed on the lees, adding volume and a silky texture. The wine ages for 12 months in new French oak barrels and used American oak barrels, followed by at least 12 months in the bottle, gaining complexity and elegance.

Founded in 1901 in Haro, Bodegas Bilbaínas is one of the most iconic wineries in Rioja and the oldest in the historic Barrio de la Estación. With over 250 hectares of its own vineyards, it is also the winery with the largest estate-owned vineyard area in the region. Its flagship brand, Viña Pomal, embodies the winemaking tradition of Rioja Alta: wines of exceptional quality and faithful to the classic style of the D.O.Ca.

Viña Pomal Vinos Singulares Tempranillo Blanco Reserva 2018 is perfect for pairing with seafood, fatty fish, spiced dishes, or Asian cuisine.

The winery

Bodegas Bilbaínas

Located in the famous wine region of the Barrio de la Estación in Haro, Bodegas Bilbaínas is one of the historic and benchmark wineries in Rioja. Its origins date back to 1859, when the Bordeaux house Savignon Frères et Cie, fleeing the phylloxera plague, settled in Haro to produce and export wine to France. In 1901, a group of entrepreneurs from Bilbao acquired the facilities, also building a new and monumental winery with underground cellars. Thus, the Bodegas Bilbaínas company was definitively established.

In a short time, its wines gained a strong reputation. So much so that in 1925, this house was honored with the title of Supplier to the Royal Household and Heritage. In 1997, the winery became part of the Grupo Codorníu, undergoing a profound renovation of its facilities and vineyards, as well as a modernization of its wine styles.

Today, Bodegas Bilbaínas boasts an exceptionally extensive estate-owned vineyard in La Rioja: 250 hectares spread across the Haro region, within the subzone of Rioja Alta; and it has enviably solid brands that encompass different styles: from the most classic Viña Pomal, to La Vicalanda (Alta Expresión) and the more modern and youthful Viña Zaco.
