General Information

Viña Eguía Reserva 2020 comes from a vintage that was rated Very Good. It’s made from Tempranillo grapes from selected plots in different areas of the D.O.Ca. Rioja, located between 350 and 550 metres above sea level. These are vineyards on hillsides, plateaus and small terraces, with an average age of 40 years, growing in calcareous clay, ferrous clay and alluvial soils, and are bathed by a Mediterranean climate with marked Atlantic and continental influence.

The grapes were harvested by hand and fermented in stainless steel tanks with daily pumping over. The wine was aged for 24 months in American and French oak barrels. After this time, it was matured in the bottle for at least another 12 months.

Muriel Wines is one of the most prominent wine groups in Spain. The origin of the group is in Bodegas Muriel, a firm located in Elciego (Rioja Alavesa) in the D.O.Ca. Rioja, created by José Murúa in 1926. His son, Julián Murúa, took over the reins of the family winery in 1986, marking the start what is now the Muriel Wines group, which currently comprises six wineries, four of them located in the D.O.Ca. Rioja.

In 2010, Muriel Wines acquired Viña Eguía, a winery founded in Elciego in 1973 where it has fully revamped the brand. Based on the meaning of the Basque word ‘egia’ (truth), the label shows an outstretched hand in oath-swearing position accompanied by the motto ‘In vino veritas’: in wine there is truth.

Viña Eguía Reserva 2020 (D.O.Ca. Rioja) is great with stews made from legumes.

The origins of Bodegas Eguía, located in Elciego, date back to 1926. In 2010, this winery, better known as Viña Eguía, was acquired by Julián and Javier Murúa from the Muriel Wines group, which also owns Bodegas Muriel, Viña Muriel, Marqués de Elciego, and Conde de los Andes in Rioja; Pazo Cilleiro in D.O. Rías Baixas; and the Real Compañía de Vinos in various regions of Spain.

Bodegas Eguía produces wines from vineyards in the Rioja Alavesa region, using the tempranillo grape variety. The wines from Bodegas Eguía are complex and intense, with prominent fruit notes and a fresh, modern character. The use of barrels is aimed at enhancing the wines' aromatic complexity and elegance. These are approachable wines, perfect to enjoy at any moment.
