Viña Bujanda has become synonymous with quality in Rioja. The winery was established by Carlos and Pilar Martínez Bujanda in Oyón, and the business is now run by the fourth and fifth generations of the family. They are conscientious workers with good taste who strive for excellence – as attested by Viña Bujanda Gran Reserva 2015, the top wine in the range. The consistency of the 2015 vintage has ensured that this magnificent Rioja is currently in fine form. Complexity, elegance and long life in a bottle.

General Information

Viña Bujanda Gran Reserva 2015 is made wholly from Tempranillo grapes from vineyards located in Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa. The 2015 vintage was rated Very Good and produced wines with good structure and colour, suitable for long ageing periods. Fermentation took place in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature, followed by maceration for 22 days. This red was finally aged for 26 months in American and French oak barrels, followed by a long period in the bottle.

The Martínez Bujanda family’s involvement in the winegrowing sector dates back to 1889, the year the original winery was founded in Oyón. The family, one of the most important in Rioja wine and currently headed by siblings Pilar and Carlos Martínez Bujanda, the owners of five firms, later began its expansion. Finca Valpiedra was its first Rioja firm, a château-style winery based on one of the most spectacular estates in the Denominación, located at a bend in the river Ebro between Fuenmayor and Cenicero.

In 2009 Carlos and Pilar Martínez Bujanda started up their second Rioja winery: Viña Bujanda, for which they returned to their origins, Oyón. Viña Bujanda practises carefully monitored grape growing, harvesting by hand in small crates, sorting tables, painstaking vinification and ageing in the best barrels. The 127 hectares of vines whose grapes go into making the firm’s wines grow in Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa.

Viña Bujanda Gran Reserva 2015 (D.O.Ca. Rioja) is perfect with mature and semimature cheeses as well as meat stews, steamed vegetables, pulses and soups.

Creators' opinion

The winery

Bodegas Viña Bujanda

The saga of the Martínez Bujanda family boasts over a century of winemaking tradition. From its beginnings, the family's winemaking philosophy has been based on selecting the best terrains and producing wines from their own vineyards. This same ideology governs the winery Viña Bujanda (2009), which has 120 hectares of vineyards (between 20 and 60 years old) spread across different estates in Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa.
