After the success of the previous two vintages, the third harvest of this fabulous Ribera del Duero arrives, created exclusively for us by Valdemar Family, a guarantee of elegance and expertise. Valdemacuco Selección 2023 is a single-varietal Tempranillo with 5 months of aging in barrels, which adds complexity without overshadowing the fruit. A ‘ribera’ through and through, intensely fruity, with notes of ripe red fruits, herbal nuances, and subtle toasted touches. On the palate, it presents a sweet and full entry, dominated by the fruit.

General Information

Fincas Valdemacuco is the project of our friends Jesús and Ana Martínez Bujanda (Bodegas Valdemar) in the Ribera del Duero region of Burgos. Here, Valdemacuco Selección 2023 is born, a single-varietal tempranillo sourced from selected vineyards in the Nava de Roa (Burgos) area, with a light aging of 5 months in oak barrels.

In 1985, Jesús Martínez Bujanda, a member of one of the most historic families in the wine sector, embarked on a new phase that turned Bodegas Valdemar into one of the most innovative firms of the time: he launched wines onto the market with more intensity and color than the classic Riojas, fully embracing modernity. Located in Oyón (Rioja Alavesa), Valdemar has developed a wide range of wines with quality, consistency, and great reach. The winery is also recognized for its expertise in long aging.

Since the past decade, Ana and Jesús have been applying everything they have learned over generations to their Ribera del Duero project: Fincas Valdemacuco, where they produce interesting red wines from vineyards located in the Nava de Roa (Burgos) area.

The red wine Valdemacuco Selección 2023 (D.O. Ribera del Duero) is ideal for pairing with beef steak, Iberian cured meats, and aged Manchego cheeses.

Tasting notes

"

Deep cherry red color with very high intensity, violet reflections, and generous tears.

On the nose, it is intensely fruity, with notes of ripe red fruits, herbal nuances, and subtle toasted touches.

On the palate, it offers a sweet and full entry, dominated by the fruit. Its firm structure leads to a long aftertaste, with elegant smoky hints provided by the oak.

The winery

Bodegas Valdemar

Founded in 1889, Valdemar is one of the oldest and most important wineries in Spain, a driving force behind the Rioja Alavesa we know today and revolutionary in its concepts. A house currently led by the fifth generation of the Martínez Bujanda family, whose success lies in the perfect combination of historical expertise blended with constant research to achieve the highest quality.

In 1985, Jesús Martínez Bujanda began a new chapter that transformed Valdemar into one of the most innovative wineries of the time: he launched wines onto the market with more intensity and color than the classic Riojas, fully embracing modernity. Additionally, this winery has been a pioneer in the use of temperature control during production and in the fermentation of Viura whites in wood.

Valdemar has developed a wide range of high-quality wines, known for their consistency and great distribution. These wines originate from an extensive estate-owned vineyard: 275 hectares; and are characterized by their long and magnificent aging processes.
