General Information

Since 1998, Bodegas Familiares Matarromera, supported by the winemaking tradition of Carlos Moro's family in the D.O. Cigales, founded Bodega Valdelosfrailes in the Valladolid municipality of Cubillas de Santa Marta. From its beginnings, the winery broke with the winemaking tradition of classic claretes to focus on high-quality wines, primarily vinified with the region's main variety, tempranillo.

With old vines of this variety, over 125 years old, Valdelosfrailes Pago de las Costanas 2016 is crafted, the most coveted red wine of Carlos Moro, the alma mater of Bodegas Familiares Matarromera, in the Castilian region. A wine that embodies the union of excellent raw material, altitude, and minerality.

The Pago de las Costanas is located in Cubillas de Santa Marta, at an altitude of 800 meters and occupying just over 15 hectares of a loamy-clay vineyard. From there comes this wine, which is ideal to accompany stew, roasted meat, mushrooms, and aged cheeses.

The winery

Bodega Valdelosfrailes
Sponsored by the family winemaking tradition in the D.O. Cigales, Carlos Moro (Bodegas Familiares Matarromera) founded Bodega Valdelosfrailes in the Valladolid municipality of Cubillas de Santa Marta. From its inception, the winery broke with the winemaking tradition of classic claretes to focus on high-quality wines, vinified primarily with the main variety of the region, the tempranillo, which thrives so well along the Duero river. Bodega Valdelosfrailes owns 60 hectares of its own vineyards and controls an additional 70 hectares.
